Regularly use various specialist software such as SESAM suite of software, GeniE, Abaqus, Nauticus, PLUS, 3D-Beams; and similar.
Responsible to manage projects and generate design review and verification reports as the basis of certification and verification activities. Also attend fabrication workshops to survey and witness manufacturing and testing activities.
I joined LJMU as a senior Lecturer in Mechanical & Marine Engineering department as part of the School of Engineering.
I designed, developed and implemented undergraduate and postgraduate courses in mechanical, marine & offshore engineering subjects including but not limited to: “Engineering Design & Graphics, Solid Mechanics, Thermo Dynamics, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering Systems, Offshore Engineering, Offshore Structural Design, Engineering Analysis by Finite Element Technique, Management Techniques, Project Management, etc.”
I expertly used and taught Finite Element Analysis software. I developed and delivered specific programme for ship design and construction.
I carried out PhD research work in the study of tubular joints capacity under combined loading conditions in accordance with API RP 2A for use with offshore jacket structures. I published technical papers in this field.
I supervised PhD research programmes in Formal Safety & Reliability Engineering fields; co-authored technical papers in these fields. Supervised a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in a variety of engineering design and development cases.
I developed collaborative relationships with industrial partners and participated in a number of new ship design and construction projects as a consultant.
I established a new business and developed a client base in marine industry.
I carried out surveys and condition inspection on behalf of a number of ship-owners mainly in second hand tonnage market.
I carried out survey on new equipment for new-build programme prior to delivery of the equipment.
Took full responsibility for all aspect of the conduct of the business with respect to book-keeping and accounts, staff management, marketing, liaison with various parties involved; such as manufacturers, P&I Clubs, Classification Society's Representatives, etc.
I carried out full cargo tank inspection before and after loading/discharging of oil tankers. I carried out full loading/discharging of oil tankers cargo calculations in compliance with the clients' requirements. I carried out cargo sampling at various stages of oil tanker operation both on shore and on ship. I witnessed laboratory testing of oil cargo quality. I represented clients in issuance of Bill of Lading.
I started cadet-ship with BP and graduated with Certificate of Competency Chief Engineer's Part-A and HND in Marine Engineering in May 1983.
Then I transferred to working on Oil tankers starting as a Junior Engineer and worked my way up to the rank of Second Engineer on VLCCs.
I worked as Salvage engineer leading a team of salvers to offload crude oil from bomb damaged VLCC's.
I served as Chief Engineer on a Salvage/Fire-fighting vessel in the Gulf during Iran-Iraq war.
My main experience as a Marine Engineer up to the rank of Second Engineer on a variety of product and crude oil carries from 25000 GT to ULCC oil tankers (Steam & Motor ships).
