Roles & Responsibilities:
- Able to contribute in practical ways to the success of my team and to hospital targets.
- Experience of collecting and recording study data of ECG's, Blood Pressure, pulse, temperature and samples.
- Involved in providing direct patient care, including assessing their needs and discussing their treatment and medical care with hospital doctors and consultants.
- Making sure the working environment is safe in a busy environment that is under pressure.
- To varying degrees have worked in very busy Accident and Emergency departments, operating theatres and post natal clinics.
- Ability to remain calm in difficult situations whilst at the same time being observant, adaptable and firm with patients.
- Experience of creating individual patient care systems that look after patient physical, mental and social needs.
- Experience of using advanced hospital equipment and procedures including administration of intravenous fluids and vitamins to patients, operating different oxygen apparatus, electric beds and administering tube feeding pumps.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
- Receiving reports from off-going shifts, and giving reports to oncoming shifts.
- Keeping informed about the status of all patients.
- Reviewing medical records and nurses notes.
- Serving as a point of contact and liaison for patients, visitors, families and physicians.
- Contacting nursing staff at short notice to fill in for staff absences.
- Carrying out all duties according to established policies and procedures.
- Treating all patients with dignity and respect.
- Contributing to the management of the ward.
- Ensuring that all nursing staff attends mandatory training and skill updates.
- Assessing and evaluating a patient's condition.
- Administering drugs and medicines to patients.
- Promoting a positive physical and psycho-social environment for patients and residents.
- Educating patients about the possible side effects of any medication that they are taking.
- Giving patients feedback on their treatment.
- Deputising for the floor manager in their absence.
- Carrying out quality care audits.
- Assisting physicians during rounds.
- Completing pre and post treatment assessments of patients.
- Working with patients who may have been exposed to infectious diseases.
- Updating patient clinical records.
- Writing up daily reports to senior managers.
- Making sure that junior staff are competent in the use of all medical equipment.
- Making sure that all medical equipment if working properly.
- Liaising with other healthcare providers.
