OR Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the utilization of the nursing process and based in internationally accepted clinical nursing practice standards for the Operating Room; ensures safe and effective care prior to, during, and immediately after surgical procedure; responsible for managing record supplies and equipment; provides health education to patients and families; collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and the achievement of the desired patient outcomes; contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through continuous quality improvement and research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Obtains a thorough and ongoing data collection upon arrival to the and throughout the OR stay
2. Adheres to established protocol in ensuring patient safety
3. Demonstrate skills in manipulating and troubleshooting bedside equipment
4. Prepares operating room with appropriate and complete instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment necessary for each individual surgical procedure
5. Establishes and maintains a sterile field at all times
6. Monitors aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure
7. Effectively functions as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse during the surgical procedures for all types of elective and emergency cases performed
8. Demonstrates effective infection control practices conscientiously
9. Executes and evaluates established plan of care for patients in pain
10. Maintains a clean and safe environment at all times
11. Executes nursing interventions in a safe, appropriate and timely manner
12. Adheres strictly to standards in handling hazardous materials
13. Collaborates plan of care with other members of the health care team
14. Maintains complete, accurate, concise, and updated documentation of patient care
15. Observes a high level of confidentiality in all matters related to patient care
