The position of Country Manager / Managing Director for DHL Iran is a role which leads, maintains, develops and nurtures the DHL business in this diverse country. Responsible for 224 staff, 20 facilities, revenue of Euro 18 million and EBIT of Euro 6 million whilst remaining compliant to UN Sanctions.
Responsibilities:
• Manage an existing mobile network customer’s warehousing and distribution project with 25, 000 sqm facility with numerous deliveries to remote and difficult locations requiring the use of specialist equipment
• Sign and set up a new project with mobile network provider for 3 warehouses (total 22, 000 sqm) in different cities and provide distribution from each warehouse
• Scope and propose warehouse and distribution solution for Global FMCG company, project put on hold due to external uncertainty - 15, 000 sqm DC and 10, 000 delivery sites - Phase 1
• Provide multi modal transport solutions for FMCG industry players to ensure their raw material enters the Iranian market - 100 TEU Reefers per month sea/road
• Assist Oil and Gas industry companies who are withdrawing from the market to ensure all equipment exits the country whilst remaining complaint to international laws - road/storage/sea for over 100 ton of equipment
• Provide Annual Operating Plan on Country and Departmental level so all Managers understand the cost and demand levers to ensure we maintain cost reduction strategies, whilst not compromising productivity, profit and customer service standards.
• Formulate 3 year business plan which incorporates: - investment towards future facilities, fleet, staffing and development; market growth strategy to expand the footprint and penetration of different industries; increase the performance management to ensure profit targets are exceeded.
• Compliance and accreditation to industry standards (ISO), ensure international sanctions and embargoes are adhered to in minute detail.
The position required a high level of experience in the aviation sector of the industry to ensure safety, security, compliance, on time movement and utilization of capacity of the DHL own and contracted aircraft. Lead a Disaster Recovery Team for 6 weeks during the Typhoon Ketsana to manage airport logistics involving - temporary airside warehousing, air charter organization and handling, GHA management, linking air to road movements.
Oil and Gas Industry expert to provide Regional leadership for Country teams in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa for upstream and downstream projects. Solutions and projects conducted:-
• Air Charters - 2 to 3 per month of varying sizes - 12 to 100 ton / 3 to 10m items
• Barge solution - Weekly west African coastal solution
• Customer LTL/FTL LLP road contract GCC wide - 5-10 movements per day
• Eastern Europe road/rail distribution - 50-100 rail wagons per month
• 4PL LLP tendering and contract implementation in Middle East and Siberia
Grew revenue by 145% year on year.
Position required developing new lanes from GCC into Yemen, Egypt, Turkey and Europe, providing road solutions to many different industry sectors - aviation, retail, oil and gas, automotive. Utilised numerous contractors to provide different equipment to guarantee all projects were conducted in a safe and suitable manner. Over 100 unit movements per day throughout the GCC. Managed an in-house maintenance facility ensuring all vehicles were continuously rolling.
Customer solution provider to the Oil and Gas Industry servicing the majors as well as contractors. Hands on experience with:-
• Rig and drill string relocation - Saudi to Bahrain over 100 ton of equipment
• Direction drill servicing - Saudi to Norway 7-10m DGR clarified tools 8 x per month
• BOP refurbishment and chroming - Saudi to France 10 x per month
• Downstream plant shutdowns - Jubail and Yanbu petro-chem plant overhaul - 300 ton of equipment in 3 month period from worldwide origins
• Inter regional tool movements - Daily consolidated 20 ton loads into and out of KSA
• On/off shore rig down recovery - 24 hr on call hand carry or air charter service
Grew revenue by 120% year on year.
Customer sales in the Port and Industrial cities of Jeddah, handling raw materials, spare parts, final goods distribution, bunkering samples in multi modal movements. Exceed targets and grew revenue year on year by 140%.
Transport company with many different combinations of equipment to meet customer demand - low boys, skeleton trailers, swing lifts, hiabs, tippers, flat and drop side decks, curtain and hard siders, temperature control and fridge units.
