JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: Under general direction, manages and directs nursing care activities and coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures efficient and coordinated clinic flow by coordinating and planning clinic activities; communicates patient’s needs; makes referrals; serves as a resource person of insurance information.
2. Delivers direct patient care; assesses patients physical, psychosocial and/or emotional needs; provides patient and family teaching; triages patients and informs physician of patient status; responds to phone messages from patients and informs physicians as needed; orders supplies; stocks and maintains patient’s rooms; sterilizes instruments.
3. Administers medications as assigned; serves as a resource person for knowledge of medication uses, side effects, and dosage; checks for proper medication order; documents medications; obtains required consent forms to administer immunizations; notifies pharmacies of physician approved prescriptions; reviews drug samples to insure they have not exceeded the expiration date; labels sample drugs and educates patients of medication administration.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. Assists the Provincial Coordinator and Provincial Training Officer in the conduct of advocacy activities with key decision makers (Mayors, Barangay Captains) as well as health managers/providers for the conduct of project activities at the municipal/provincial level.
2. Assists in the coordination with LCEs/MHOs/PHNs/RHMs for the conduct of trainings and community mobilization activities.
3. Assists the Provincial Coordinator and Provincial Training Officer in overseeing/monitoring the conduct of project activities (Trainings, workshops, meetings, special health events, etc.)
4. Assists in the preparation and training event management.
5. Assists in the preparation of post activity reports and ensure that documentary requirements are encoded and reported (BHW & HSP Training Inventories, HPC Tracking Tools, etc.)
6. Assists in coordinating the provision of coaching and mentoring to trained HSPs/BHWs.
7. Prepares materials needed for the conduct of project activities
8. Assists in the coordination with the PHO or MHO in the design and preparation for special health events such as (Safe Motherhood Month, Garantisadong Pambata, Lung Month, Family Planning, etc.)
9. Assist the Provincial Coordinator and Provincial Training Officers network with PHO/MHO, community groups, media and potential sponsors for special health events.
10. Assists in the preparation, consolidation and submission of all required HealthPro monitoring and technical tools.

* Helping to figure out if you're in labor or false labor. If you are in false labor, your nurse will likely send you home. If you're in labor, your nurse will be able to help you figure out how far along you are by your labor symptoms. This can include items like checking your cervix to see how dilated you are, counting contractions, and looking at your overall appearance.
* Helping you to get settled into your room once you arrive at the hospital.
* Taking your first vitals and all your vitals for the remainder of your stay. Vitals include items like blood pressure and pulse.
* Making periodic checks on your baby while you're in labor like using a Doppler or fetal monitor (external or internal).
* Administering both induction medication and pain medication (including IVs), although epidurals are not. An epidural must be given by a trained anesthetist.
* Assisting the doctor or midwife who delivers your baby. This means helping you to prep for the actual birth, helping you to stay cool while you're giving birth, and helping you to hold your baby after the birth.
* Taking your baby's apgar score, weighing, and checking out your baby is something your maternity nurse is likely to do.
* Helping you to clean up after the birth, checking your after-birth vitals, fluid intake, and output.
