Furniture Resources Int'l is the sole importer and distributor for the furniture collections of Rausch Classics of Germany. I have been responsible for the complete operations of the company from start up including the development of the price structure, sales teams, administration, advertising, warehousing and distribution and financial development of the company.
Developed a valuable professional rapport with operations managers, marketing officers, and clients and set standards for product development, service, delivery, and customer relations.
Kontra, Mohammed Jalal & Sons, Manama, Bahrain
Responsible for the development and growth of Bahrain's leading Interior Design and Construction company. Kontra's projects included Hotels, Palaces, Airports, Banks, Commercial Projects, Government Offices and Retail Outlets etc.
During my tenure with Kontra we were able to increase turnover from $1.5 million to over $15 million with proportionate increases in profit.
I was responsible for a staff of 32 people with a workforce of over 700, all of whom were of different ethnic backgrounds. Built cohesive management teams, solved difficult organizational problems, implemented new programs, and restructured organizational design.
This contract was for the Interior Co-Ordination / Administration of the refurbishment and extension to Bahrain International Airport, contract value approx $12 million.
Key responsibilities included the co-ordination and interface of all interior finishes with other inter related trades, oversight of the procurement of materials and products to ensure that they met the contract specifications and were within time and cost schedules, financial and contractual administration of the project including preparation and agreement of monthly valuations of work complete, variation orders, claims for time extensions and preparation and agreement of the final account.
Turban Tourism & Financial Services, Istanbul, Turkey
As the contract management division of Turkey's Tourism Bank that guaranteed foreign loans to tourism projects in Turkey I was employed as a consultant to implement sound and tested procedures for contract evaluation, financial and contractual administration for such projects.
Working closely with the bank's staff I also developed programs for design review, project budgeting, functional planning, tender review, project award.
Saracen Interiors Int'l Ltd, Colombo, Sri Lanka
Recruited by Ashby & Horner of London to be the General Manager of their joint venture company in Sri Lanka. The company specialized in complete interior fitting out contracts both on a design and build basis and to clients own designs.
During my tenure with Saracen I managed to increase turnover from $0.75 to $ 7.5 million in our busiest year. We had an office staff of 15 and a workforce of over 400 people all of whom we had to develop and train to achieve the standards required for the fitting out of the projects we undertook, which mainly included Hotels & Banks. Projects of note include Galadari Meridien Hotel, Taj Samudra Hotel, Inter-Continental Hotel, Hilton Hotel and Standard Chartered Bank.
James Phillips Group of Companies, Leeds, West Yorkshire, Great Britain
I joined the James Phillips group originally as a quantity surveyor in one of their interior finishing divisions responsible for estimating, financial and contractual administration of their projects. After being with them for 9 months I was transferred to their Interior Design and Construction division which had started work on projects in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, I was then sent to the Middle East to run these projects on site whilst still retaining the contractual and financial responsibilities.
In July 1977 I was appointed Managing Director of this division and guided the company through the successful completion of it's overseas projects and then into further development of it's home based market
