Structural Design Engineer
Coordinated responsibilities between three design engineers and drove achievement of ahead of schedule delivery. Handled design software and project cost estimation relating to quantity take off, as well as, overseeing materials testing. Determined location of building, site preparation, and leveling including amount of cut and fill, as well as, bore holes identifying level of ground water table. Planned and scheduled construction stages, updated client on construction progress, coordinated and led materials testing including Concrete cylinder tests, Trial batches, and Soil moisture content, and estimated materials takeoff.
Achievements:
• Controlled concrete cracks by moving casting time from mid-day to midnight reducing heat and lack of moisture and reducing cracks.
• Steered lagging progress back on track through suggestion of alternative testing method producing quicker more reliable results than existing process.
Assisted with general and self-consolidated concrete mixing, as well as, developing testing apparatus for self-consolidated concrete testing. Conducted compression and tensile tests on concrete cylinders, performed experimental tests including: J-ring, Slump flow, L-box, Static segregation test, and Cassion test, developed apparatus for new tests, performed concrete mixes based on proportions provided by lab manager.
Achievements:
• Minimized invest for apparatus required to perform Segregation and Cassion tests by recommending purchase of raw materials and construction from scratch.
Reviewed calculations ensuring accuracy, designed structural members employing design software and applying ACI and AISC codes, and maintained project files. Preparing structural design calculation for various structural members within steel and reinforced concrete structures, performed structural analysis and presented results to supervising engineer.
Achievements:
• Maintained minimal overhead, expanded skills, and bolstered need for extra assistance by volunteering for increased hours against hiring another intern.
Civil Engineering Intern
Participated in project involving large area lake contaminated with dangerous fertilizers, caused by storm run-off, including indentifying and sourcing environmentally sound and cost effective fertilizers and raising community awareness by conducting public meeting promoting utilization of environmentally safe products.
Achievements:
• Successfully remediated contaminated water through research and recommendation of specific fertilizer protecting fish and maintaining clean water
On-boarded to assist graduate student pavement projects. Handled coarse aggregate sieve analysis, and triaxial testings. Ordered testing materials and managed lab.
Achievements:
• Garnered return invitation from professor for stepping up and volunteering for extended work hours supporting increased project load.
