Administering oxygen and oral glucose. Reassuring patients and bystanders by working in a confident, efficient manner. • Avoiding mishandling and undue haste while working expeditiously to accomplish the task. • Assessing the extent of injury and gives all possible emergency care and protection to the entrapped patient and uses the prescribed techniques and appliances for safely removing the patient. • Providing simple rescue service if the ambulance has not been accompanied by a specialized unit. After extrication, providing additional care in triaging the injured in accordance with START triage system as per EMT protocols. • Lifting stretcher, placing in ambulance and seeing that the patient and stretcher are secured, continues emergency medical care. • Determining the most appropriate facility to which the patient will be transported, unless otherwise directed by the dispatcher. • Reporting directly to the dispatcher the nature and extent of injuries, the number being transported, and estimating the time of arrival to hospital so that the dispatcher may in turn inform the hospital of the same. • Monitoring communication equipments and maintaining contact with dispatcher. • Communicating with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility and obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility. • Assisting treatment center admitting personnel to obtain and record information related to victims' vital statistics and circumstances of emergency. • Assisting to control crowds, protect valuables, and perform other duties at scene of catastrophe. • Assisting professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at medical facility. • Assisting in lifting and carrying the patient out of the ambulance and into the receiving facility. • Assisting the paramedic to restock and replace used linens, blankets and other supplies, cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures, making careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run. • In accordance with EMT protocols, decontaminating the interior of the vehicle after transport of patient with contagious infection or hazardous materials exposure. • Maintaining familiarity with specialized equipment used by EMT. • Attending continuing education and refresher training programs.
