Quality Manager at Aurecon Group
  • Saudi Arabia - Jubail
  • September 2015 to June 2017

Project during my tenure at Aurecon. I am responsible for managing the quality performance of the Principal Contractor, Manufacturer and Sub-contractors and Vendor Suppliers (approximately 40). The Project is spread across 6 continents South Africa China, Canada, Europe, Sweden and France.
I was required to prepare a scope of works for the potential Third Party Inspection Company`s that provided the inspection services required in China, Europe, France Canada and Sweden where 70% of the fabrication would take place. Tender Adjudication on the 3rd Party Inspection Company had to be carried out through a multi-criteria analysis process to ensure the adjudication process is flawless
I managed the Fabrication, Construction and Erection and Commissioning of Two Ship Loaders and two Stacker Reclaimer`s and this includes all disciplines - mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation.
The Client requested to adopt a Risk based quality approach due to a limited quality budget. Quality Risks had to be pre-empted, identified and mitigated to ensure predictive quality results were achieved.
I developed a Schedule of all high risk processes that needed to be monitored and audited so that quality resources focus on areas that indicate probable problems.
Lessons Learnt were being conducted at each phase of the project to ensure any findings were carried over to the next phase to ensure repeated mishaps are not repeated
Due to the complexities that resulted from substituting BS EN and ASTM materials for Chinese materials, great care had to be taken to ensure the chemical composition, mechanicals (yield, tensile, elongation) and impact testing was equivalent and suitable to meet the clients requirements. We done a comparison between the two standards to ensure we source an equivalent Chinese grade material that was suitable for the project. I draw up a complete specification spreadsheet referencing each code and standard to ensure the inspection process were accelerated.
Codes and Standards utilized on the project were as follows : AWS D.1.1, AWS A2.4, ASME 1X ISO 5817, ISO 2728, ISO 13920, SANS, BS EN 10025, BS EN 10083, ASTM A475, ASTM 435, GB/T 700 2006, GB/T 1598-2008 etc.…

My responsibilities were as follows:

• Develop and implement a Site Specific Quality
Management System on the project to ensure
compliance of the Contractors/Suppliers to the
project procedures, standards and specifications
• Develop and implement a Quality Management
Plan in conjunction with the principal supply
contractor
• Manage and control the cost breakdown man
hours against the project budgeted man hours
for the quality discipline
• Procure and manage the 3rd Party Inspection
authority responsible for performing quality
control surveillance on behalf of RBCT in China
at the premises of the manufacturer and vendor
• Perform regular inspections on site together
with the Aurecon discipline engineers during
construction, maintaining records of non-
conformances and manage the process of
corrective actions or application for concessions
• Support the Project Director during the
execution phase by attending to all matters
relating to quality assurance and quality control
on the machine replacement project.
• Schedule and perform quality audits on
contractors, suppliers and manufacturers
involved on the project.
• Squad check the Level 6 schedule and verify that
all key quality activities are included and are
translated to the inspection schedule
