PROJECT CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER at SPEC SERVICES INC
  • United States
  • My current job since June 2008

 Ensure engineering and design accuracy and integrity through rigorous engineering calculations and 3-D structural steel modeling, to include allowance for seismic and wind loads.
 Engineering and designed structural steel support systems and concrete foundations for process equipment, skid frame modules and piping systems for process plants.
 Performed analysis and design of foundations of horizontal vessel and vertical vessel, gas compressor and heavy mechanical pumps. Respon¬¬sibilities also included design of pipe rack structure and its founda¬tions, structural steel platform around valves for access and pipe/cable tray supports in the vicinity of the site.
 Performed analysis and design of a new ethanol rail offloading and truck loading facilities at an existing intermodal site, designed structural steel canopies at the rail and truck areas, mat foundation for new control building, pipe rack and cable tray support structure, paving, and fencing layout.
 Designed foundations for welded steel storage tanks by following API 650 Appendix E, with the foundation style being ring wall and mat foundation. Project included working with designer on determining containment volume required around the tank along with design of retaining walls.
 Designed foundation for prefabricated switch gear building, electrical equipment foundations including MCC, Switch Gear, Transformer, Unit substations, VFI Switchgear, structural steel frames for electrical panels and switch rack structures.
 Engineering and design of pipe bridge structure, 80 foot long, spanning existing creek to support proposed pipeline installation. Design comprised of steel braced frame structure supported on drilled pier foundation with analysis includes connections, base plates and anchor bolts design for seismic loads.
 Design and analysis of concrete and masonry retaining walls to contain water and product, along with additional surcharge loads from adjacent foundations and traffic loads; provide calculations for required reinforcements, oversee preparation of construction drawings and permit acquisition.
 Engineered responsibility for design of softener unit and sludge thickener tank foundations, sludge press and water treatment building foundations, large underground pump pit, underground concrete vault for pipeline valve access and misc¬ellaneous grading and drainage improvements.
 Design of steel access platform structures around process equipments, piping valves and tanks.
 Additional work with reinforced concrete design: Foundations for equipment foundations including air cooler, vibrating pumps, steel storage water and bladder tanks, vent stack, underground vaults, catch basins, power poles and fence walls.
 Perform evaluation and modification of existing structures and foundations to allow for revised load due to stresses from additional piping/equipment installation.
 Design concrete protection slabs for Highway/Railroad pipelines.
 Ensure project strength through preparation of engineering calculations to obtain building permits and provide structural observation throughout the construction phase.
 Work in collaboration with key design/project partners to ensure proper support is provided. Ability to manage multiple project priorities and to work effectively in a multi-discipline team environment.
 Coordinate with Geotechnical Engineering to prepare soil reports to meet individual project requirements and manage foundation construction issues.
 Review shop drawings submitted by steel/concrete contractors, confirming connections, welding specifications, and size details and prepare technical response to RFI’s.
 Interface with clients, project managers, other discipline engineers and designers and project controls on single or multi disciplined projects.
