Playing a pivotal role as Head of Audit with accountability for the leadership and strategic development of the audit function. Devising the annual risk-based audit plan from inception to implementation in addition to directing the performance of internal audit assignments. Recruiting, leading and developing the internal audit team to achieve challenging targets and objectives. Reporting directly to the Audit Committee and senior management on performance. Ensuring compliance with all internal policies and procedures, best practice, legal and regulatory guidelines.
Major achievements include;

Representing the internal audit division at audit committee, management and external meetings
Diversifying auditing techniques to enable robust risk management including integrated VS unit, continuous VS random and risk based audits
Personally selected to lead on the planning and execution of other discretionary projects pre-approved by the audit committee
Proactively keeping abreast of general business and economic developments, new pronouncements and standards to gain an understanding of their links and impacts on the Municipality

Dynamic and multifaceted role with responsibility for leading the finance and accountancy functions along with delivering effective resource management, technology planning, business process optimisation and team management. Creating and implementing innovative strategies to enable enhanced financial and operational performance whilst regularly reporting to senior management on divisional performance. Overseeing and coordinating accountancy and finance activities including budget management, cash flow, investment and assets management, payroll, purchase ledger, financial statement production and auditing activities.

Major achievements include;

" Successfully set up and established the accounting and finance division of 26 employees
" Positioned WRM as the leading municipality in the country
" Devised and implemented robust internal systems, policies and procedures which improved team performance, mitigated risk and enabled the safeguarding of financial assets
" Effectively managed the evaluation of capital projects and reports on Total Cost, ROI, NPV, IRR and Payback Period as well as variances for all sector projects undertaken by WRM
" Providing high impact cost efficiency recommendations following analysis and review of operating costs and budget variance

Accountable as Head of Finance across four business sections; Accounting and Budgeting, Procurement and Inventories, Treasury and Cash Management and Real Estate. Managing and overseeing all financial and administrative affairs including responsibility for a team of 28 employees. Undertaking strategic planning and development across all business sections together with effective financial control and management. Ensuring all tenders, contracts and LPO's are prepared in accordance with organisation policy.

Major achievements include;

• Introduced a new computerised accounting system to convert from a cash basis to an accruals basis applying IFRS, providing training to the team of Accountants and supervising the system implementation
• Created new monthly financial statements using accruals for senior management; previously only produced on an annual basis
• Implemented a range of cost saving initiatives which had a positive impact on the company's bottom line
• Developed a strong and cohesive workforce, from initial involvement in recruitment and selection through to supporting the team in professional development via training, appraisals and PDP's
• Established an inventory system to enable greater stock management and control in addition to establishing a purchasing policy for the organisation and developing strong vendor relationships
• Created a new system to accurately record real estate information, enabling greater control of revenues and outstanding debt

Managing and overseeing the financial affairs of the company including the preparation of financial statements, budget management and the development of a comprehensive and effective MIS. Supervising and motivating the finance team, comprising of 12 qualified accountants, to achieve business aims and objectives. Conducting analysis and review of financial information, drawing recommendations and providing feedback and solutions to the senior management team.

• Introduced a new computerised accounting system including supervision of software implementation
• Established a robust costing system for all products produced by the company
• Developed in implemented a new fixed assets register for the company
