• Assists the surgeon during operation as a scrub or circulating nurse.
• Accounts for materials used during operation such as instruments, sponges, surgical needles and sharps, the proper declaration of the completeness and accuracy of the count to the members of the surgical teams.
• Takes care and secures any medico-legal/surgical specimen obtained from the patient during operation.
• Monitors and maintains level of stocks and OR instruments/supplies.
• Makes an accurate and complete documentation of all pertinent data.
• Assists the anesthesiologist during induction of anesthesia.
• Observes and institutes appropriate measure in emergency and crisis situation.
• Performs ECG and fetal monitoring as necessary.
• Maintains close communication with the Head/Charge nurse in all matters relating to patient care.
• Participates in conferences and committee meetings.
• Carries out and implements doctor’s order intelligently.
• Participates in the education of students exposed for clinical practice.
• Constantly monitor on proper movements and techniques of surgical team to ensure aseptic technique all throughout the procedure.
• Anticipate the verbal and non-verbal needs of the patient.
• Administer medications, treatment and proper documentation to patient chart, cognizant of reaction and reports harmful side effects, nursing observation and care to the physician.
• See to it that area is always neat and clean.
• Provide patient care through independent nursing actions before proving the dependent and inter-dependent nursing actions.
• As an additional, I have the opportunity of acting as first assistant and scrub nurse at the same time from simple excision of mass and abdominal surgeries like appendectomy, incision and drainage, debridement, etc.
• Assumes responsibility for patient’s care, ward management in the absence of the Head/Charge Nurse.
• Participates in direct nursing care in response to patient’s calls immediately.
• Maintains close communication with the Head/Charge Nurse in all matters relating to patient care.
• Attends to psychological and spiritual needs of patient.
• Participates in conferences and committee meetings.
• Maintains completeness of emergency cart/box and checks apparatus/equipments as to its functionality.
• Carries out doctor’s orders intelligently and performs nursing procedures.
• Participates in the education of students exposed for clinical practice.
• Interprets quality plan and implements accordingly.
• Assumes responsibility for patient’s care, ward management in the absence of the Head/Charge Nurse.
