Clinical Responsibilities


* Combined patient care with dentists & specialists including periodontist to provide a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care
* Detailed patient examination including patients medical, dental & social history
* Examination of the face and neck, oral cavity and signs of periodontal diease
* Treatment planning with regards to patients needs and if signs of periodontal diease present
* Identification of oral disease, management and prevention
* Basic periodontal exam (BPE), full pocketing charting (6ppc), plaque/bleeding indices scoring
* Specific tailored oral hygienie advise including correct toothbrushing techniques & interdental cleaning
* Caries prevention & diet advise, importance of flouride
* Patient motivation to change oral hygeine habits
* Recommendation of tailored dental products to patients
* Smoking cessation including cigarettes & shisha
* Scaling, polishing and root surface debridement using ultrasonic and sub and supra gingival instruments with and without use of local anaesthesia, experience with using Oraqix local anaesthesia
* Experience of delivery of antimicrobials into periodontal pocket- dentomycine gel
* Removal of plaque calculus and extrinisic stains
* Use of prophyjet 3 in propylaxsis
* Root surface debridement to pateints under IV sedation with monitoring from dentist & anesthetist
* Cross infection control and sterilisation of dental equipment
*Competent & responsible to refer advance periodontal cases to periodontist and discuss such referals with the patient
* Application of fissure sealants, topical fluoride varnish, antimicrobials and desentizing agents
* Oral health promotion to adults and children
* Providing care to the medically comprised and those dentally anxious and phobic
* Oral care to those pregnant
* Maintance of dental implant patients
* to take radiographs- in this setting is dentist responsibility
* Trained in taking alginate impressions- in this setting is dentist responsibility
* Working knowledge of home & chairside whitening procedures
* CPD including basic life support, radiography &cross infection on a yearly basis- cycle 1 of 5 years completed 2013
