My research focused on developing biosensors to target lipids for early diagnosis of ailments like Prostate Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease.
• Making growth media for growing bacterial cultures.
• Protein extraction and purification, and optimizing protocols.
• Performing High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) on bacterial cells.
• Work on the project concerning research focusing on expressing the C2 domain of the protein lactadherin in bacterial cells.
• Derivatize purified protein with a fluorescent molecule NBD.
My research focused mainly on reducing the time it took Geneva-41 (an apple rootstock) to produce roots and shoots for the apple growers. Also helping graduate students with their projects.
• Perform general molecular biology techniques such as PCRs, transformations. DNA amd RNA extractions, Particle bombardment, and cloning.
• Use BLAST software to compare the sequences of different genomes.
• Grow and maintain different varieties of apple, cherry and pear plantlets under sterile conditions.
• Make media and other necessary reagents following the protocol provided.
• Make trips to different orchards and collecting samples for further molecular analysis.
• Making trips to conferences and attending meetings with plant growers.
• General lab and greenhouse maintenance.
• Setting up lab materials for classes like microbiology, anatomy and physiology, cell biology, organismal biology and human physiology.
• Making media and other necessary reagents following the protocol provided.
• Cleaning and maintaining sanitary conditions.
• Managing and training new lab members.
• Maintaining lab inventory list.
My grades for the last semester are still not out but my present GPA is 2.95.
