Resident in General Surgery - FCPS Training, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP)
Completed structured postgraduate residency training in General Surgery leading towards Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS) in a high-volume tertiary care teaching hospital. Training involved comprehensive exposure to emergency, elective, operative, peri-operative, critical care, academic, and administrative aspects of surgical practice.
Emergency Department (ER):
Responsible for the assessment and management of acute surgical and trauma patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Duties included triage, resuscitation, formulation of differential diagnoses, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic investigations, and initiation of definitive management plans. Managed surgical emergencies requiring urgent operative intervention and gained significant experience in handling medico-legal cases and critically ill patients requiring life-saving procedures. Coordinated multidisciplinary care with anaesthesia, radiology, intensive care, and other surgical specialties to ensure timely management of emergency cases.
Outpatient Department (OPD):
Conducted detailed clinical evaluations of patients presenting with elective and follow-up surgical conditions. Responsibilities included history taking, physical examination, formulation of management plans, counselling regarding operative and non-operative treatment options, obtaining informed consent, and arranging appropriate pre-operative investigations and optimization. Participated in operation theatre scheduling and OT list management to facilitate efficient workflow and timely surgical intervention. Followed up post-operative and discharged patients to assess recovery, manage complications, and ensure continuity of care.
Inpatient Wards, HDU & ICU:
Managed admitted surgical patients throughout the peri-operative period, including pre-operative preparation, daily inpatient care, post-operative monitoring, and management of complications. Responsibilities extended to the care of critically ill surgical patients in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including fluid management, nutritional support, wound care, interpretation of laboratory and radiological investigations, and coordination of multidisciplinary treatment plans. Performed general surgical procedures with progressive operative independence under consultant supervision as part of competency-based surgical training.
Academic & Administrative Responsibilities:
Actively participated in departmental academic activities including daily ward rounds, morbidity and mortality meetings, case discussions, weekly presentations, and research projects, with emphasis on evidence-based surgical practice. Administrative responsibilities included maintaining clinical documentation, coordinating patient flow and operative scheduling, assisting in resource and workforce management, and mentoring junior residents, house officers, and interns.

Completed structured clinical rotations in Neurosurgery (with particular focus on trauma), Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Orthopaedics & Trauma, gaining multidisciplinary exposure to complex surgical and trauma care.
