I provide interventions to individuals, families and Social work agencies which include:

Determining client eligibility for services and conducting bio-psychosocial assessments and social histories in terms of Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act, 2008.Act 70 of 2008.
Assessing clients for substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, financial stability, safety, suicidal/homicidal ideation in terms of the aforementioned Act.
Developing and implementing treatment plans and discharge plans that adhere with client self-determination;
Providing direct therapeutic services such as individual, family or group therapy using multi-modal approaches: Cognitive behavioural approach, psycho-educational approach among others
Providing crisis management including assessment for safety;
Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment team of doctors and nurses to develop individualized treatment plan
Maintaining accurate records and prepare reports for court, legal purposes and committing substances abusers to rehabilitation centres in terms Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act, 2008.Act 70 of 2008.
Working with young offenders who have been referred by court for drug related crimes.

Facilitate after school programmes for preventive purpose with children at risk of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS
Organize information meetings with community members on technical aspects
Attend internal and external meetings, workshops, ensuring integration of substance abuse and addiction issues
Preparing, conducting, and evaluating technical training programs related to alcohol and substance abuse, counselling, HIV and AIDS, peer education and life skills according to regulatory requirement.
Facilitating the training of Social Auxiliary Workers, Professionals and Caregivers, within CBO and researching the ever changing training needs of social workers, social auxiliary workers, caregivers.

Statutory services

Handling and managing complex high volume of cases
Referring cases if necessary to relevant and specialised service providers.
Removal of children from unsafe families/ environment and placement in alternative care (these may include foster parents and child care institutions like places of safety, children’s homes and schools of industry)
Initialising children’s court inquiries (this involves compiling and submitting a background/opening social inquiry report to the presiding officer of the Children’s Court in terms of the Children’s Act, 38 0f 2005
Finalisation of children’s court inquiry (which include writing a finalisation of inquiry report which gives direction regarding the future care/ permanency plan of the concerned child.
Assessment, screening and training of prospective foster or adoptive parents or alternative care placement
Preparing for/and undertaking court presentations as an expert witness helping the courts to make informed decisions.
Designing of child or family care plans.
Family supervision of families at risk and those looking after children at risk to maintain their fabric using family based approaches like the family preservation model/ the ecological model.
Attending case conferences or panels (meetings normally involving different professionals or service providers in relation to a particular case as well as prospective foster or adoptive carers).
Reunification and termination of services reports. Reunification reports for cases involving children that are reunited with their families while termination reports are compiled at the end of each case especially when a child is no longer covered under the Children’s Act.
Generic social work services including initial file intakes, distress screening, crisis intervention, risk assessment and psycho-social support and therapeutic work
Provide wide range of psychosocial services to children living with cancer and their families.
Regularly assess the patient and family psychosocial needs.
Regularly assess the pre-bereavement/anticipatory grief needs.
Implement the Plan of Care provisions to meet their needs, which include: social service goals for alleviating problems, supportive counselling, problem solving, community referrals pre-bereavement and bereavement care.
Regularly re-evaluate the patient’s and family’s psychosocial needs.
Report writing and administrative tasks.
Facilitate support groups for parents whose children are living with cancer
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team.
