Exploring the competitiveness of various catalytic materials in terms of conversion and selectivity for application in chemical looping combustion through computational chemistry methods.

The main objectives of the PhD project (which is part of the platform project MiCeTech - Minerals and Cement Process Technology, funded by InnovationsFonden) supported FLSmidth® in their efforts to take their new leach technology - the Rapid Oxidative Leach (ROL) process - to market. A better understanding of the mechanisms and limitations were elucidated through surface spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and computational chemistry.
BIOMATERIALS RESEARCH GROUP Executed and led the design, analysis, and testing of DNA modified by gene therapy carriers to elucidate the mechanism of gene delivery into cells. Collaboration with University of California, Berkeley, to learn how to design and build an optical tweezing instrument, which required a versatile tool kit of skills to complete - circuit board assembly, software and coding troubleshooting, and laser and optics assembly.
Involved in the processing of hollow glass waveguides designed for transmitting terahertz signal for satellite communications and biomedical scanning. Researched the effect of layered polymer and metallic coatings on the inner walls of hollow glass waveguides. Elective classes include Fiber Optics, Optical Materials, Polymer Engineering, and Glass Engineering.
