SERVICE PROVIDER GIS
WWF Malaysia
Total years of experience :11 years, 4 Months
Project of WWF-Malaysia using Maxent (Machine Learning based) and ARCGIS Softwares to predict habitat suitability for Bornean elephants in Sabah, Malaysia. Analysis also involves predicting habitat suitability for future time periods using WorldClim future climatic data until year 2060.
Taught courses titled “Digital Image Processing”, “Introduction to GIS” and “Spatial Data Analysis”. Also supervised Beachlors level GIS research projects.
Worked as GIS Cell Analyst in a project funded by DFID (Department of international development) UK aimed at improving public service delivery and capcity building of District Government departments in terms of GIS use and its applications. Major GIS interventions included uplifting Health, Education, Police, Social Welfare and other sectors too.
As a Lecturer i taught courses titled “Digital Image Processing”, “Introduction to GIS” and “Introduction to Remote Sensing”. I also reviewed course outlines for the BS level GIS courses. Assisted in conducting and designing GIS Lab exercises for BS GIS students.
This project involved studying the effects of light pollution for the suburbs of Singapore. Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) data for previous 18 years was used to monitor the effects and changes of light pollution.
Taught course titled “Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing”. My assistance also included designing labs and enable students to be able to work with Remote Sensing Software ERDAS IMAGINE
Worked as teaching assistant for a course titled Spatial Analysis in International Masters Program Geodesy and Geoinformatics. Helped in conducting labs and helping students in any technical problems with GIS software’s used in GIS Lab. Also prepared new lab exercises as per guidelines and regulations of Geoinformatics Department of KTH.
Provided my services as GIS Analyst for a GIS based Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management organization and laid foundation for accurate and high quality digital GIS maps to be used in Vehicle tracking system. Also cleaned country wise maps of Nigeria to ensure accurate calculation of shortest path algorithms developed to suggest best path for vehicles and fleets managed by the organizations.
As a GIS Analyst i was tasked to explore Open source GIS initiatives in Research and Development section of Comsats University Abbottabad campus. We explored GRASS GIS software and consider its effectiveness on Unix / Linux and Sun Solaris platforms. I also assisted environment science students in accomplishing GIS projects and come up with ideas for their GIS final years projects.
As an Assistant GIS / Remote Sensing Specialist with (ALI) Inc. (ALI Inc. is an US based company having its offices in USA, Canada, Russia, and Pakistan) i took part in processing satellite Imagery of Landsat 7 (ETM+) and carry out image processing and conduct mosaicking, geo-referencing, color enhancements, coordinate and projection conversions.
Project also included digitization to convert paper maps into digital GIS maps and developing GIS maps for final printing purposes. Also trained DGMM (Directorate General Mines & Minerals) Peshawar, officials including Senior Geologists, Mineralogists, Cartographers and others to enhance their capabilities to utilize the available GIS applications.
Worked as a Junior GIS Developer with Eycon Solutions (an Islamabad-based MIS Consulting company) on a project titled Arsenic Contamination & Mitigation (AS&MP) Project carried out by PCRWR ( Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources).
GIS technology was then used to prepare Arsenic zoning maps from the surveys conducted by PCRWR, resulting maps showed the potential areas having Arsenic threat. A complete data set providing all the necessary information about water sources in these areas was also created and attached with these maps. An interactive and user-friendly interface was then created using VB6 and ESRI MapObjects.
I developed Graphic User Interface using ESRI MapObjects using Visual Basic 6.0. MapObjects development platform is Visual Basic 6.0. This strong combination of Map Objects and Visual Basic 6.0 allowed for development of advance GIS applications. Also took part in Database Development in MS Access.
This master program laid out the foundations of data science, statistics, and machine learning. Focus was to analyze big data and make data-driven predictions through probabilistic modeling and statistical inference; identify and deploy appropriate modeling and methodologies in order to extract meaningful information for decision making. Program Enabled me to develop and build machine learning algorithms to extract meaningful information from seemingly unstructured data and learn popular unsupervised learning methods, including clustering methodologies and supervised methods such as deep neural networks.
Masters Thesis: Geo-statistical techniques for predicting bird species occurrences The project was carried out as a master’s thesis which is a requirement for completion of International masters program in Geodesy and Geoinformatics for Royal Institute of technology Stockholm Sweden. The main objective of the thesis was to model bird species occurrences and habitat niche as accurately as possible. Geo-statistical methods tested for this purpose were interpolation and regression. The bird species named capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) was chosen due to its wide geographic range and high detectability. The bird is not too common and not too rare for modeling and has relatively well known habitat requirements. Whole Sweden was selected as study area. Study was conducted for 25m, 100m and 300m resolutions. Results of two Geostatistical methods were compared at the end.
Masters Thesis: GIS & GPS Integration Bachelors Thesis was aimed to find out ways how Location based technologies can help in marketing sector using GIS and GPS.
