Working as a contractor for selected projects
At a freelance level, I gained (and still doing) an enormous amount of experience in various design disciplines working for such international names as Interbrand, Wolff Olins, Siegel+Gale, fischerAppelt, Designroom Sport UK, TONIC, Future Brand, Zaman, Impact BBDO, twofour54, and OMNIA.
As a Creative Director of Brand and Design at 60 degrees, in an embedded team for HBKU (Hamad Bin Khalifa University) under "Qatar Foundation". Leading the creative team on the development of the recently launched university brand which was not fully developed at the time. The task involved teaming up with the client's marketing team to work on the nitty-gritty and the holistic side of the brand simultaneously. The challenge was that the ongoing released communications didn’t allow much of time for the development process. Yet, in a short period of time the results were remarkable, I managed with the team to refresh the brand successfully, build a solid brand system and guidelines, in parallel to creating successful design solutions in terms of print and digital ads, collaterals, events design, and animations. I've also designed a custom Arabic typeface (4 weights) exclusively for HBKU which added a significant weight to the identity.
During this time, I had a great opportunity to direct and develop the branding side of a high profile international event, (World Innovation Summit for Health), WISH-Qatar for “Qatar Foundation”, an integrated project, with a scope that included a brand language, typography, spatial branding, 3d design, digital app, and printed collaterals and more. WISH project preview I had also another great opportunity to work with International account (T-Systems - Germany) on directing and developing a brand identity for a massive networking alliance that operates on a global scale ‘ngena’, www.ngena.net
I worked for a multitude of different local and regional clients, products and services, including branding strategy proposals for “Qatar Rail” and re-structuring the brand of “Saudi Post”. I have also worked closely with the advertising team on concept creation and art direction for various campaigns.
In a widely known international branding firm, where I gained a great deal of experience, worked with very talented people in creative design, created remarkable designs for high profile clients, I have also gained special experience in typography and its bilingual challenges, plus a deep understanding of spatial branding and 3d visualization.
This is a course aimed at making you a better designer. The course marries theory and practice, as both are valuable in improving design performance. Lectures and readings will lay out the fundamental concepts that underpin design as a human activity. Weekly design challenges test your ability to apply those ideas to solve real problems. The course is deliberately broad - spanning all domains of design, including architecture, graphics, services, apparel, engineered goods, and products. The emphasis of the course is the basic design process: define, explore, select, and refine. You, the student, bring to the course your particular interests and expertise related to, for instance, engineering, furniture, fashion, architecture, or products. In prior sessions of the course about half of the participants were novices and about half had prior professional design expertise. Both groups seem to benefit substantially from the course. All project work is evaluated by your peers -- and indeed, you will also be a peer reviewer. This format allows you to see an interesting collection of projects while getting useful feedback on your own project.
