Receiving Visitors and Answering Queries: One of the main duties of a receptionist is to receive visitors coming to the company. Every person that comes to the organization, first goes to the reception area. So, the major duty of the receptionist is to greet the person and answer all the queries he has. While answering the queries, the receptionist should be polite and have a smile on her face. This is a part of receptionist duties and responsibilities. She should also follow job etiquette such as not indulging in long or personal conversations with visitors, being present at the desk at all times, during working hours, etc. She should also have complete knowledge about the company and its employees The advancement of office automation has eliminated some receptionists' jobs. For example, a telephone call could be answered by an Automated attendant. However, a receptionist who possesses strong office/technical skills receptionists use multiline telephone systems, personal computers, and fax machines. Despite the widespread use of automated answering systems or voice mail, many receptionists still take messages and inform other employees of visitors¿ arrivals or cancellation of an appointment. When they are not busy with callers, most receptionists are expected to perform a variety of office duties, including opening and sorting mail, collecting and distributing parcels, transmitting and delivering facsimiles, updating appointment calendars, preparing travel vouchers, and performing basic bookkeeping, word processing, and filing. A front desk receptionist is responsible for checking messages at the beginning of each shift, transferring calls to the correct office, and maintaining a professional demeanor when answering the telephone. A receptionist must be able to accurately answer general inquiries over the phone, and so should be well versed in the basic workings of the office and should know everyone's extension number
