I am Teaching English at Tianjin Agriculture University. I have over 300 students aging from 17 to 22. I also am Teaching Post graduates .
The company I work for has on many occasion has ask me to give Lectures and Public Speaking .
At times I have been ask to teach Chinese English Teachers on how to speak and work with other Teachers/Business Executives at a Foreign Expo in Tianjin 2013.
Our basic method of teaching here is Oral English and this taught with the help of books called " the Canadian Culture Guild". This is a standard book used through out china. But it is so out dated(1960's), that my students and I use the internet for our class work.
Because the English Langue changes so much and so fast it is good to use the internet to keep up with the times and we can also look up the pass as well on how things were said and done.
Power point comes in handy for students who like to give visual exams as well as verbal. It also gives them a chance to stand to stand up in front of the class and do some Public Speaking .
My students are very intelligent, some are engineers or accountants and veterinarians and doing logistics. I even have a few studying to be English Teachers.
All my students are very good at English as in reading, writing and computers, but they lack in Oral English .
So as a Teacher from Australia and America(BA in English) It has been my challenge to get my beautiful students out of there shy shells and into the real world of English.
I have been teaching my students the difference between America and Australia and China. The do's and don'ts between each customs and about holidays .
My students are very good with the internet so they bring up many questions on a today topic and I am very surprised when they bring up American History .
Many of my students will achieve there goals and will be pillars in the Chinese community. I am very proud to have been part of their lives, not only in the classroom but on many of our outdoor journey's.
Outside of my school job I love to help my local friends practice English . At first it started with the local children then it graduated to the mothers, fathers and even there grandparents . We have a lot of fun and there is a lot of laughing too.
All though my Chinese in very limited we get by with drawing, flash cards and yes noises(chickens-duck) sounds . I new my short acting career in TV and Movies would come in handy one day.
While in High School I did volunteer work of the senior center and at the missions Soup kitchen for the homeless . I worked with handicapped children at our local YMCA youth center . All this was done after hours and weekends. I was in the drama department as Actor , Singer, Set Designer and Assistant Director and Understudy. This help me my Public Speaking class and understand Teamwork
