Abstract
Wheat is the major cereal crop after rice; it has gained much importance in the world because of its essential components in it. It is cultivated almost all around the world especially in the temperate regions. Production of wheat has been decreased from few years due to different abiotic and biotic stresses. It was estimated that in 2050 the world population can be increased and it would require more food. The production of wheat can be increased by controlling its yield related problems. Major wheat producer countries are United States, Russia, India, China and Pakistan. Pakistan stands 11th and in terms of area, production and yield it falls under ten major wheat producing countries. In ancient times good varieties can be selected on the basis of phenotypic evaluance and on the basis of plant development. But it is time consuming, laborious and tedious work, so selection on the basis of genotypes is one of the best solutions to resolve these problems. The study of plant diversity is done by using different molecular techniques like Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP), DNA barcoding, Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) and Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) or microsatellite. In this study 100 SSR markers were used on parents (Faialabad-08 x SV-24) sixteen of them were polymorphic and they were applied on biparental (F2) population. Different agronomic parameters were studied, from these parameters we found five QTLs. By using QTL Cartographer QTLs were identified by comparison of phenotypic and genotypic data. The number of QTLs were identified are following one from NonFertile Tiller, three from Protein and one from Amino Acids. The correlation coefficient of Fertile Tiller, Non-Fertile Tiller, Plant Height, Number of Nodes, Internode Distance, Protein and Amino Acids showed both positive and negative correlation with each other. Frequency distribution of all studied agronomic parameters of F2 population showed significant difference between two parents. The discovery of QTLs from Non-Fertile Tiller, Protein and Amino Acids of different chromosomes of hexaploid wheat provides the understanding about different genetic mechanisms of wheat. More studies are required for the identification of new QTLs from different genetic backgrounds.
