M&E CAD Draughtsman
Hilson Moran
Total years of experience :17 years, 5 Months
I have over 20 years experience in the industry. Having worked predominantly in building services (MEP) but also with substantial experience in telecoms, running drawing offices & working in heavy plant for one of the world's biggest high security paper printers, De La Rue.
I am currently working on a contract basis for a busy consulting engineers, Hilson Moran. The majority of our work is high profile projects in the public, private & residential sectors around London working in conjunction with some of the most prestigious Architectures in the world.
I have recently returned from Abu Dhabi and I am keen to further my skills in a different environment, offering new challenges to utilise the skills I have been fortunate enough to acquire due to the plethora of training & resources awarded to me.
Whilst managing the Drawing Office at De La Rue - Currency, I completed courses in Revit MEP, Inventor and instigated DLR using laser scanning software for which I completed further courses relating to this. This was a particularly diverse environment which revolved around a huge industrial process consisting of heavy plant and very niche, bespoke equipment involved in the continuous production of high security paper. We were essentially designing the engineering process for a 24/7, continual manufacturing operation.
This role encompassed component drawing, M&E, Architectural, Civil, Schematic & Controls Systems & P&ID diagrams (AutoCAD), 3D point clouds & laser scanning, reactive drawing work for Mill maintenance amongst the array of mechanical surveying work.
During my time at De La Rue, I helped set-up & improve the network management & document control while setting up an improved & robust structure for the Drawing Office. Implementing a series of new CAD standards & protocols, organising training for our design team, developing new scanning and 3D surveying/modelling solutions. The systems set-up aided employees utilising the drawing systems & network facilities greatly. Due to having a large staff base with no drawing support, it was necessary to ensure all employees (irrespective of skill set) were able to understand and adopt these new standards in order to become more self-sufficient and coordinate engineering services.
The software solutions now in place put the business on the front foot for emerging 3D technologies & future development within the Engineering sector, as was the wish of the Director prior to my appointment. This was, without doubt, the most challenging yet rewarding role in which I have worked.
Setting up new CAD standards & protocols to establish tighter document control and effective administration of estates records within a secure, defence environment. Production and co-ordination of Electrical, Mechanical and Public Health drawings
Amend and update a huge backlog of estates records, complete all new projects from conceptual phase through to ‘As Built’ status using AutoCAD. Transferring all completed data onto The Government’s Engineering Management Information System (EMIS).
