Oracle 2 Teradata Forklift Migration
O2T project requests migration of the client Oracle Data Warehouse to the new Teradata platform. The primary benefit to BI group is improved availability - Stabilization of the DWP infrastructure with world class business intelligence tools, increased availability of data, and better reports - with stable query and load performances.
The primary technical challenge in current environment is unstable infrastructure which is critical to BI and user communities.
In the new environment Teradata will conduct the planning-analysis-execute-deploy activities, in an “as-is” forklift of the DWP and data migration.
Forklift Migration is essentially a re-host of the current DWP environment and underlying data. It is defined by the following steps:
•Creation of identical versions of the Oracle tables on Teradata while converting incompatible data types.
•Copying of historical data from the Oracle tables to the Teradata tables.
•Conversion of the current Oracle ETL processes in Informatica to instead load Teradata.
•Conversion of Database Procedures and Triggers, where applicable, to Teradata.
•Conversion of related Oracle SQL, Dynamic SQL, and PL/SQL to equivalent Teradata SQL.
•Migration of the BI universes to work against the new Teradata environment.
•Verification that all public user reports function in the new environment, and support user acceptance testing.
•Development of a basic backup and recovery process for the new environment.
•Unit and System testing to ensure that the migrated systems function correctly in the new Teradata environment, prior to user acceptance testing.
•Merge of selective required critical changes to production code made during the Forklifting
