Materials Engineer with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) PJSC - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Assigned Duties:
Overall purpose of the role:
To develop/review engineering designs for Mechanical and related installations involving all shipboard mechanical systems and release material requirements using existing parts or by creating new parts as applicable in a timely and accurate manner in order to ensure alignment with project and customer requirements, in line with applicable engineering principles as well as ADSB and industry standards.
Responsibilities, Accountability and Authority:
o Responsible for review of mechanical system drawings (as required by Projects) received from partner shipyards or design consultants in order to ensure that the outsourced deliverables comply with vessel specifications and project & customer requirements are in line with ADSB standards.
o Assist in the technical review of offers from vendors as required by projects in order to ensure that procured materials are in line with technical specifications and ADSB standards.
o Responsible for material take-off for new construction projects and develop Bill of Material based on contract and design documents provided by the Ship Designer.
o For repair projects, responsible for seeking additional technical details if required and develop Bill of Material based on drawings or input from Production.
o Accountable for releasing requirements in MARS based on requirements mentioned above by using existing parts if available or otherwise create new parts in accordance to instructions.
o Responsible for maintaining Bill of materials for new construction projects as required by the project team.
o Participate in ship checks and support production for engineering requirements of the project.
o Review quotations and provide recommendations to buyers for appropriate materials.
o Attend Harbor Test and Sea Trials for new built ships. Provide piping system operational training for ship crews (bilge, ballast, fire, fuel oil, lube oils, oily water separator, dirty oil, engines cooling, steering gears, domestic fresh Water etc…)
o Extend engineering support for ship repairs by providing proper material details of equipment replacement/ repair/ renewals and prepare required materials purchase requisition.
o Attend project agenda meetings and ensure that regular follow ups of material requirements as requested by Production are being done.
o Proactively interact with supervisors, foreman and peers for job completion as per ADSB standards.
o Observe requirements for safe working practices at all times in the shipyard.
o Comply with any other orders and instructions given time to time by Section Head.
Surveying Ships for U.A.E. Registration on behalf of Ministry of Communication.
Conducting On-Hire, Off-Hire / Bunker Surveys for Supply Vessels and Barges.
Assigning Construction, Piping, Machinery and Electrical Drawings for Class & Marine specifications.
Estimation of Materials and Calculation of steel weights.
Supervision of Construction / Repair works / Pipeline installation for ships as per Class approved drawings.
In charge of NDT, U.T Gauging special surveys for Super Tankers,
Crude Oil Carriers and several other types of ships for various class societies (ABS, BV, LLOYD’S, GL, DNV, NKK) and preparation of Reports in Class format.
preparing estimation for quotation purpose, submit drawings and steel weights calculation to clients for additional works.
Supervision of Construction and Repair works, modify and submit drawings for class approval
In charge of NDT section, U.T Gauging special Surveys of ships for various class societies (ABS, BV, LLOYD’S, GL, DNV, NKK) and preparation of Reports in Class format.
