Job Descriptions:
* Assist major and minor operations in OB, ENT, Maxillofacial, Urological, Endoscopy,
Colonoscopy and Surgical cases.
* Provides direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of
scientific nursing principles.
* Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and
evaluate patient care plans. Conducts pre- and post-operative education.
* Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
* Takes and monitors patients’ vital signs and provides basic, bedside care.
* Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient.
* Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed.
* Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed
medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the
policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
* Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the
appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
* Prepare operating room for patient/procedure.
* Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens and observes and enforces strict
standards of asepsis.
* Selects and handles instruments and supplies used for the operation, passing them to
surgeon.
* Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running
smoothly.
* Handles patient documentation and inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery.
* Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse
symptomatology.
* Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum.
* Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant
others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of
medication and rehabilitation.
* Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
Prepares and evaluates the nursing care plan for each resident. Assists in planning nursing
care. Participates in teaching residents and staff.
* Prepares and administers medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Knows
action and side effects of medication administered at designated times.
* Assists in diagnostic and therapeutic assessments of resident’s condition. Accurately observes,
reports and records to proper source.
* Gives oral and written reports of pertinent information to oncoming staff. Communicates
accurately in oral or written reports.
* Makes daily rounds, recording and reporting symptoms and progress.
* Adheres to policies and procedures for Health Care Services.
* Responsible for safety and welfare of residents through proper implementation of nursing
procedures. Routinely observes nursing care given by staff and makes suggestions accordingly.
* Consistently demonstrates professional attitudes and manner including confidentiality.
Professional in appearance and relationships with staff and residents.
* Demonstrates flexibility in recognizing and participating in 24 hour staffing if need occurs.
Maintains attendance and observes working hours, starting time, lunch period, breaks,
quitting time, etc.
* Complies with work rules, regulations, and instructions, follows established systems and
procedures, and completes assignments with minimal supervision.
Prepare the surgery for use at the beginning of the session and clear up at the end of the
session consistent with Health and Safety protocol.
* Anticipate the Dental Doctor requirements across a broad range of clinical procedures.
* Prepare filling and impression materials, instruments, equipment, dressings and syringes.
* Use equipment such as hand instruments, aspiration equipment in a manner which minimizes
the risk of cross infection or soft tissue injury.
* Provide pre and post-operative instructions for patients in agreement with the Dental Doctor.
* Maintain hand pieces, aspirators, other equipment and process and mount radiographs.
* Arrange for the timely supply of materials and laboratory work and receive the patient into
the department and prepare them for treatment.
* Record treatment, for example; baseline charting, clinical treatments and periodontal
charting from the dental doctor’s instructions.
