High Speed 2 (HS2) - Old Oak Common Station

• I have taken full and comprehensive responsibilities in identifying all the interfaces, and managing the interfaces among numerous Work Package Contractors, as well as the HS2’s Contractors appointed by the Client, HS2 from a technical point of view. I have achieved efficiencies, and produced clarity by identifying most interfaces that exist among these Subcontractors with each other and with the Client’s appointed High Speed 2 System’s Contractors, providing specialist services and in all cases, pre-empted what interfaces may exist among them, even prior to their identification, appointment or award. My valuable key role mitigated risks of delays and additional costs being incurred in future, and my contribution has been extremely valuable to the Old Oak Common Station project.

• I secured the consultancy contract for the company in this Design & Build Contract;
• Achieved significant material cost savings through Value Engineering & Preliminary Design of the first 45km elevated MRT line in Kuala Lumpur with a value of around £3.8 bil and achieved sufficient savings for my contractor client to win the project;
• Led Detailed Design Team of 15 professionals for 7km elevated rail viaduct box girders.

Penang Second Crossing Marine Bridge, Penang, Malaysia

• I secured the consultancy contract for the Detailed Design of the 16.5km marine approach viaduct superstructure with twin prestressed concrete box girder structure, constructed using precast concrete segments, erected using the span-by-span segmental construction method with external prestressing, with a contract value of around £350 mil, and led a multi-disciplinary team of subconsultants responsible for highway, geotechnical and Mechanical & Electrical services designs. I achieved material cost savings of around £60 mil through my economical design, and l led Detailed Design Team of 25 professionals, as well as a site team of 25 professionals.


New Doha International Airport Tunnels - Qatar

• I was responsible for securing the detailed design of 2 twin three-lane reinforced concrete tunnels with total length of 1, 076m and 1, 014m, under the runway, subject to aircraft loading, as well being the independent checking of a third tunnel built using the cut and cover technique;
• My expertise in the design of reinforced concrete tunnel structures and value engineering saved material costs for my contractor client sufficiently for them to secure this contract, thus engaging my company for the detailed design.


KLCC Tunnels (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

• Having secured this project, I ensured fast-track delivery of the design of a pedestrian and a vehicular subway tunnel required to join Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) Twin Towers to the Convention Centre built using the cut-and-cover technique using carefully designed temporary works, which met the very stringent settlement criteria.

Developed and executed innovative design strategies for large-scale infrastructure projects, ensuring cost efective and eficient construction methods. Led multidisciplinary teams in the preliminary and detailed design of complex engineering structures, including elevated MRT line1, marine viaducts, and
expressways. Spearheaded alternative design proposals for critical projects, incorporating advanced techniques like span-by-span segmental construction, mono-piles, and precast prestressed segmental crossheads. Directed the detailed design of various bridges and tunnels, applying expertise to overcome seismic challenges and stringent construction tolerances. Collaborated with contractors to optimise design solutions, achieving significant material cost savings, and maintaining trafic flow during construction phases.
• Secured a consultancy contract for the Preliminary Design of a 45km elevated MRT line, leading to substantial material cost savings and improved buildability.
• Pioneered using 2.2m diameter mono-piles in Penang, resolving trafic management issues while constructing a 3.2km elevated dual carriageway.
• Directed design of a 150m long, curved steel composite bridge, overcoming challenges of a busy Kuala Lumpur location.
• Delivered detailed design for twin three-lane road tunnels totalling over 2km in length, enhancing the infrastructure of Doha International Airport.

Led a small team of engineers and technicians to carry out detailed design of several alternative design solutions, achieving maximum economy in design in a very short period of time.

Second Tagus Crossing - Vasco da Gama Bridge, Lisbon, Portugal
• 20km of viaducts and roads of which over 8km are over the river Tagus. The main structures included a composite cable stayed bridge, precast concrete and incrementally launched viaducts;
• My responsibilities as were:
o erection of the externally prestressed balanced cantilever box girders of the deck adjacent to the two main navigation channels with spans of up to 130m;
o ensuring the precasting contractor was successful in precasting the complicated segments, weighing up to 120 tones.

Second Tagus Crossing - Vasco da Gama Bridge, Lisbon, Portugal
• As Team leader, I was responsible for the preliminary and detail designs of
o the 6.5km long prestressed concrete central viaduct constructed using 80m span externally prestressed whole-span precast beams;
o 130m span glued segments;
o additional specific responsibilities for co- ordination with the planning department of the Joint Venture partners, Campenon Bernard in Paris.
