Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage production, test and development environments for CMN applications
- Install / Setup / patch the database servers (SQL / Oracle)
- Setup Oracle / SQL monitoring tools on the databases servers Establish and Monitor backups
- Implement hardware and software monitoring system to proactively generate alerts for problems (Check DB server error log; Job Completion Check, others)
- Performance tuning and monitoring; Profiler/SQL Trace, or other performance moni-toring tools
- Setup OS watcher, DB monitor scripts, Verify Alert Scripts
- Capture baseline profile and growth
- Verify batches and operation windows
- Oracle/SQL infrastructure management (Install Upgrades Patches New Releases Administration)
- Make sure each of their production databases are available and acces¬sible to their users
- Check all processes - such as clustering, replication, service broker, log shipping, database mirroring - to verify that they are running correctly
- Check, OS, SQL Server, Security, and other logs for unusual events
- Verify that all scheduled jobs have run successfully, including checking for long running or "hung" jobs
- Monitor disk space to ensure their SQL and Oracle Servers won't run out of disk space. For best performance, all disks should have 15% or more of free space
- Regularly monitor and identify blocking issues
- Keep a log of any changes we make to servers, including documenta¬tion of any performance issues we identify and correct
- Regularly restore backups to a test server (once every three months) in order to verify that we can restore them
- Document all SQL and Oracle Server instances, including the hardware and operating system. Create a “recipe” of how to rebuild each instance in case of a disaster
- Weekly Status Report
- Proactive Capacity planning of storage and database CPU information
- Migration from 2005 to 2008 R2.
