Lead Design - IEC 61850 275Kv Digital Control & Protection Relay Panel TNB Certification, (Panel Certification Process for Digital Substation Standard Design to be used in TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) Grid Division)
Studying all the requirements of IEC 61850 SPACS (Substation protection automation and control systems) standard & conceptual logics of Protection and control design by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (Utility)
Preparing the typical Black Box design schematic of Digital Protection and Control drawings of 275Kv OHL/UGC, SGT, Tx, Bus Section & Bus coupler Bay and RTCC, for TNB review and comments.
Preparing the necessary bill of materials and general arrangement drawing required in the panel certification assessment.
Finalising protection relays/IED/Aux. and other required components along with client.
Liaising with client design team for any comments by the TNB in the submitted schematic drawings and incorporating the same for re-approval.
BID Management - PAC
Reviewing incoming RFQ and Tendering requests of Protection, Automation and Communication of Transmission Substations for the company, cooperating with engineers and providing optimised cost-effective solution to win the bids.
Preparing bill of materials list for the company and standardising cost sheet & BOM for all Voltage levels.
Conducting cost review meeting with client, sales team and management, finalising the offer for submission through sales.
Providing product technical data to team and managing with technical related issues.
Providing support to the BU (PAC) in achieving the annual KPI and revenue targets.
I am leading a team of Sr. System Engineers/Design Engineers, to design, develop and deliver the protection & Control Engineering drawings and documents for AIS & GIS Substation in Malaysia.
1. Design and deliver the engineering drawings/documents on time for various projects.
Assign Projects/tasks to the team from time to time.
2. Lead a team of Sr. System Engineers/Sys. Engineers and ensure the project deliverables on time.
3. Understand the customer Specification/Technical requirements and help the team to develop the design.
4. Review the design and ensure that the design is as per customer requirements and meet all standards as per customer Specification
Solve any design issues and attend the meeting with customer/Main con/TNB.
5. Ensure the release the manufacturing documents/PR etc. done in time for the projects being handled.
6. Attend the KOM/design review meeting pertaining to projects with various customer /Main Con.
7. Assign the Goals to team and mentor them to complete it in a time bound manner. Assist the Sales & marketing team and necessary.
8. Coordinate with the various dept., like PMO, SCM, Manufacturing and Testing and ensure that the project deliverables are met in time.
• Work closely with clients to understand their requirements, effectively translating these into conceptual designs for both Medium voltage switchgear and remote control protection panels for Transmission and distribution substations.
• Oversees the work of engineers, including preparation of SLD, protection and control Schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams and cable schedule for Medium voltage switchgear and control and protection panel.
• Electrical Equipment (Power transformer, switchgear, Battery bank, Battery charger, Battery bank & power cables) technical document review and preparation, with respect to customer specification and relevant IEC standards.
• Serves as the central point of contact between clients and subcontractors, defining project scopes, coordinating the supply of materials and providing site support during field installation and commissioning.
• Coordinated with sales & marketing, prepared the Technical data sheet of circuit breaker, protection relays, bay control unit, SCADA and Fault monitoring system, to submit offer to client.
• Interface with vendors, in review and comment drawing, specification of control, protection and auxiliary equipments of substation, based on design inputs and source & evaluate new suppliers of control and protection devices.
• Carried out RCAs (Root cause Analysis) for equipment failures, monitor implementation of RCA recommendations for control, protection and auxiliary devices in substation
• Provide technical expertise and guidance during field engineering, installation and testing of Remote control protection panel, switchgears and auxiliary systems in line with relevant IEEE & IEC standards.
Leading Design and Manufacture of Low Voltage, Medium voltage and Remote control protection relay panels up to 230kv for Government and private projects.
Team Size: 10 Engineers; Reporting to Technical Manager
• Directly reporting to Technical Manager
• Auto-CAD based designing & development of 415V L.V Switchgear (PCC, MCC, APFC, MDB, DG Syn., ACO ) etc., & 33/11Kv M.V Switchgear (VCB, SF6, RMG, RMU) panel & remote control protection relay panel.
• Detailed study of customer specification/SLD’s & prepare associated design document, conceptualize work execution plans after thorough discussion with production & order execution departments.
• Preparation of timely tender technical documents & costing of Low Voltage and Medium Voltage switchgear panel, assist to sales team for offer submittals and technical clarification.
• Prepare conceptual design drawings, GA, Single Line Diagrams, layout drawings, control & protection schematic drawings and foundation plan etc., to get the approval from client through sales team.
• Prepare electrical calculations (i.e. CT/VT calculations, burden calculation, DC load calculations, MV contactor fuse sizing ) etc.,
• Assist in preparing and developing production drawings for switchgears and control panels.
• Appropriate selection of the protection and control / monitoring devices of the LV Switchgears/MV switchgears
• Support factory acceptance testing and site testing and commissioning
I studied Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering full time in Annamalai University.
