The Pediatric Surgical Division at KHMC is the first unit established in Jordan thirty years ago to deal with pediatric surgical conditions. The duties of the post include inpatient and outpatient work, and participation in the department on call rota which is one in three. There are 5, 000 deliveries per annum in this hospital and the NICU also takes Surgical Neonates from other hospitals dispersed all over Jordan with a catchments area of two millions. Emergency and elective clinical work covers the General Pediatric Surgical conditions as well as other major Gastrointestinal, Urological and Oncosurgey. Day case surgery is well established in our unit.This hospital is formally recognized for training by the Post Graduate Dean at the Royal Medical Services, the Jordanian Medical Council, the Arabic Medical Council, and the European Medical Board of Pediatric Surgery.
The unit has a longstanding connection with several hospitals through out the world for training Jordanian pediatric surgeons including Hospital for Sick Children in Yorkhill, Glasgow, the Royal Manchester Children Hospital, Manchester, and the Royal Alexandra Hospital at West Mead, Sydney. The unit has telemedicine meetings with the above hospitals.
Due to the large catchments area and the excellent results of the performance of our unit, the Jordanian Armed Forces has approved the establishment of children's hospital which was opened in January 2010.
There are three teams in the unit. Currently I am working with
Dr. Imad Habibeh, he is the head of the unit. He is a general pediatric surgeon with interest in Urology and Intersex anomalies. We have three full operating days per week which I am fully involved in them. We have regular scientific activities as well as interdepartmental meetings with the Radiology department and the Oncology division.
Dr. Ibrahim Daradka he is a general pediatric surgeon with intrest in reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Najeh Alomari, he is a general pediatric surgeon with interest in Urology and minimal access surgery.

The clinical duties of the post involve working as a member of a surgical team looking after the inpatients, out-patients and day-patients. This involve pre and post operative care, outpatient clinics, operating in theatre and participation in the on call rota. The NICU also takes Surgical Neonates for Emergency and elective condition. Clinical work covers the General Pediatric Surgery, Gastrointestinal, Urological, oncosurgery and day surgery.There is great role in teaching undergraduate medical students, audit, journal club and weekly training meeting. Interdepartmental meetings such as Radiology and tumour board are held weekly.
