Supervises and coordinates activities of assigned shift including shift fire suppression, emergency medical services and hazardous material management: plans, directs, coordinates and reviews the work plan for assigned shift, meets with staff to identify and resolves problems: assigns work activities and monitors work flow, reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures.
2. Schedules personnel for assigned shift to ensure proper coverage and manpower, endorses and schedules vacation and other leave requests, prepares timesheets for all shift personnel. Assumes management responsibility for all services, operations and activities of assigned shift.
3. Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives and priorities for assigned shift; recommends and administers changes in Fire Section Policies and procedures. Works with other management staff to maintain, revise or improve the overall operations of the section.
4. Establishes and monitors employee performance objectives; prepares and presents employee performance reviews, works with employees to correct deficiencies and implements discipline procedures.
5. Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems and internal reporting relationship; identifies opportunities for improvement and reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
6. Participates in the development and administration of the fire section budget; participates in the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies.
7. Prepares a Varity of reports and other correspondences regarding fire incidents or other emergency incidents on assigned shifts; prepares daily shift operations activity report; prepares and presents monthly reports and submits to fire section head.
