Invited for the design and construction of a 30K Methanol Storage Facility.
The project involved the clean-up of an existing oil storage site, the construction of two Methanol storage tanks, rail off-loading Estacada, 2.1 Km export pipeline, vessel loading facility, 1.0Km road and rail construction and upgrade of two Berths at Poti Sea Port plus associated infrastructure to API, ASTM, GOST, IMO, ISO, and NFPA Standards.
Set up and developed their Oil, Gas and Water Pipe and Pipe Fitting Supply business in Libya and latterly in the UAE. In the UAE assisted in the developing and marketing of a new water purification system for Worldwide Water Technologies (a subsidiary of the Worldwide Industries Group).
Managed the erection of Sprung structures and Life Support Areas on Victory Base Camp, Baghdad, Iraq and Al Taqaddum Airbase, Al Anbar Province, Iraq for the US military MRAP-V Program. When I took over these projects were behind schedule but I successfully pulled them back on track; Victory Base Camp finished three weeks ahead of schedule and Al Taqaddum was handed over two weeks behind schedule.
In addition managed the recruitment and life support for the construction personnel and a contract for local national interpreters assigned to the NCO Small Arms Training Facility at the Al-Anbar Military Academy, Habbaniyah.
Managed the refurbishment, procurement, installation and commissioning of medical and dental equipment for a clinic at the Iraqi Army Habbaniyah Base, Al Anbar Province, Iraq. This project had initially been awarded to another contractor who was unable to perform. When I took over I had to condemn most of the refurbishment work, re-order material, medical equipment and arrange for the shipment and delivery in what was effectively a war zone. The project was handed over one month late but within budget.
Contracted for the refurbishment of the US Embassy’s Project Control Office and construction of the Billeting Campus in the International Zone, Baghdad, Iraq. The latter project involved the design and build of 13 individual barrack type buildings, complete with all facilities, roads, and infrastructure to house 600 people. In addition I had to liaise with the US Army to recruit and vet all personnel working on the project for security purposes.
Project value $6.7 million USD.
I was also requested by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to advise on the refurbishment of the water supply distribution lines for the above project and provide recommendations for the future water supply requirements for the International Zone, Baghdad. As a result of this monitored the drilling of two water wells, rehabilitation of water supply mains and erection of additional storage facilities for the project.
Invited for the construction, installation and commissioning of the Turkish Straits (Bospherous and Dardanelles) Vessel Traffic Management System. The project involved the construction of 15 radar towers, 2 DGPS masts, 20 to 40 metres high, two Vessel Traffic Management Center’s, and a total of 9Km access roads and infrastructure.
Total contract value in excess of $45 million USD.
Assisted the above Program with various site development proposals mainly in West Georgia.
Selected as On-Site Client Representative to manage the design and construction of a new 40k tonne oil storage/transshipment facility to API, ASTM, GOST, IMO, and ISO Standards at Poti port, Republic of Georgia.
Total contract value $10 million USD.
Saved the company over $600, 000 by advising on the redesign of tank foundations from steel piles to stone columns and by revising their material procurement procedures. Successfully located a new site for an additional 75, 000k tonne storage facility.
Route finding, mobilisation, and provision of logistical and survey support for the BP (Exploration) Shah Deniz pipeline project survey.
Total contract value $1.6 million USD.
Hired to manage the design and construction of a remote radar surveillance complex including barracks type housing, utilities and infrastructure at Grigoletti, Supsa, Georgia.
Supervised the construction of a Marine Office and Storage Facility at Grigoletti, Supsa, Georgia.
Initially recruited to survey 90 ha of green field site for a crude oil terminal and storage tank facility and the supervision of the site geotechnical investigation at Supsa, Georgia, C.I.S.
Set out and supervised the preparation of storage yard facilities at Rustavi (Georgia) and Ganja (Azerbaijan).
Lead person on a follow up leak and proof survey of an existing 530mm dia. Pipeline in Georgia for early oil export from Azerbaijan.
Directed location, access and site surveys for 10 microwave towers and control stations for the pipeline SCAD
Directed the construction of a 50 man remote camp complete with all utilities and facilities. Onsite surveyor/setting out engineer/civils inspector for the construction of crude oil storage tanks and facilitiesto API and BP standards at Supsa, Georgia.
Route finder/surveyor for the design and construction of a 36-inch diameter export pipeline from the Supsa terminal to the landfall site and the fabrication and installation of the off-shore section to the Pipe Line End Manifold (PLEM).
Recruited to manage and supervise nine crews surveying a 115-km route and 3 Gas Compressor stations to API standards for The ALSCON gas pipeline through SE Nigeria.
Liased directly with the client, the project management consultants, sub-contractors, and local communities with regards to the above pipeline.
Directed the import, transport and concrete coating of 38 km of various diameters line pipe
Monitored an Environmental Impact Assessment contract on the 115-km pipeline route on behalf of client.
Located, erected, and recruited local personnel for a 120-man remote camp with all utilities and facilities.
Monitored 11 km of pipeline construction through marine swampland including four minor and one major river crossing (contract value $20 m) and 5 km of pipeline construction through freshwater swamps. (Contract value $7m).
Successfully completed an estuarine hydrographic survey, without incident, in Wales in dangerous conditions where other teams had previously failed. (Key part of a £15m road diversion project).
Researched and prepared survey methodology proposals as part of the tendering process.
Chosen to promote the corporate identity by arranging meetings, researching and giving presentations for local government officers and consultants; won £30k new business.
Selected to take charge of all surveying and associated operations on the rehabilitation/renewal of the CPMZ 300-km pipeline in East Africa working to BS5750/ISO9000 quality standards. Later requested to take charge of the living emplacements of 135 employees, by initiating a new local purchasing policy, reduced living expenses by 25%.
Liased with the national survey office and established effective inter personal relationships, prepared all drawings, maps and reports regarding the pipeline right of way.
By changing recruitment policies saved over 100k on a Mozambique pipeline project.
Developed and implemented survey quality procedures for rehabilitation and construction of cross-country pipelines later adopted by John Brown in standard contract proposals.
Worked with Trafalgar House on the project management team for the Enron Power station.
