Selling
• Customer assistants put the company's best face forward. If they are directly involved in selling, they explain to customers the benefits of purchasing their products or services and not those of another similar company. If customer assistants serve in more of a support role for those who do the selling, they answer customer questions and concerns in the event that a customer service representative is not available.
Filing
• When customer service representatives make a sale, the customer assistant is often responsible for filing invoices. She may type up notes related to the sale, and file the invoices and notes away in an organized manner. She may maintain a hard-copy filing system or a computer database. In cases where the customer service rep and the customer assistant are one and the same, this person will be responsible for doing his own filing and note typing.
Calling
• Taking calls and routing them accordingly to ensure that customers reach the person they are calling for is another job of the customer assistant. They also place calls to current and potential customers for a variety of reasons, such as to ask how a customer's shopping experience as or to schedule an appointment between a potential customer and a salesperson.
Handling Complaints
• A customer assistant may also handle customers' complaints. They do this by listening to customers' complaints and working with others in their organization to effectively resolve the complaint. Often, this involves giving the customer a refund or credit. This is an important part of the customer assistant's duties because it helps the company retain valuable customers
