I was a pediatric resident from January 2006-December 2008. I was assigned to different areas such as the wards, neonatal ICU and pediatric ICU and emergency room. Although with supervision from consultants, I was encouraged to make professional decisions in terms of managing cases that I was assigned to.
In 2009, I was the chief resident of the department. I still was exposed to clinical responsibilities but this time additional administrative work was given to me. I was in partner with the department head in planning and mapping the training of the residents and the daily operations of the department.
In 2010, after my chief residency, I took a few months rest to prepare for my diplomate examination (written) and after passing such, i was then hired as a consultant in the Pediatric Emergency Room of the same institution. This entails a thrice weekly duty of 12 hours duration per duty and I am mainly tasked to supervise pediatric residents and ensuring smooth patient flow at the ER especially during influx of patients.
During days where I am not on duty, I divide my time among my two clinics where I see my private patients for consults.
After 2 years of private practice ( as per requirement of the society where i belong) I took my oral examination as diplomate ( March 2012) and passed the examination. I am now a diplomate of the Philippine Pediatric Society
