Ward 6B - Medical Speciality

Prior to hospital opening. Attending activation meetings. Development of orientation packs for new staf. Development of unit policies and procedures. Working with current team members preparing for activation. Participating and running simulations in preparation for receiving patients. Educating staf on various diseases likely to be nursed on the unit.

Daily running of the unit which caters for patients from the following specialties, gastroenterology, endocrinology, pulmonology, cardiology, immunology and CAMHS. Rounding with physicians from the various teams daily to discuss plan of care for the patients. Running twice daily shift huddles to ensure each nurse was up to date with the plan of care for their patients and to assess nursing needs in terms of competence in caring for each particular patient.
Assessing the acuity of each patient on the unit and spreading the acuity evenly among the staf. Supporting and education of staf particularly around diabetes initially as this was the first specialty to admit patients.
