Sergeant at Hellenic Army
  • Greece
  • May 2011 to February 2012

From 02 May 2011 to 02 February 2012 completed my military service at the Hellenic Force of Cyprus (EL.DY.K) as a sergeant (the highest rank that a private can reach), responsible for the deployment of armored vehicles and tanks. During that period I took part as a volunteer in many different engineering projects such as:

The production of Land Surveying Plans for the second largest Greek army camp.

The composition of engineering statements about the structural integrity of military buildings.

The measurement and production of architectural drawings for several of the structures.

The consultive support for the restoration of the old structures.

The consultive support for the insulation of military buildings.

Research Engineer at University of Salford
  • United Kingdom
  • January 2011 to April 2011

After I successfully completed my post-graduate studies, I took part in a research group at the University of Salford as a Research Engineer. The main focus of our research had to do with the behavior of cold-formed thin-walled steel sections under the effects of local, global, distortional, and lateral tortional buckling.

Some of my main responsibilities had to do with the modeling of the above mentioned elements in ANSYS and their analyses with the use of the Finite Element Method (F.E.M.). After these analyses I was able to create comparison tables with the results in a way that we were able to estimate their performance under the effects of buckling.

Unfortunately I had to quit since I was not able to find a sponsored scholarship to continue further with my research that had as a target a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering.

Trainee Civil Engineer at metron
  • Greece
  • September 2008 to April 2009

As a trainee Civil Engineer in order to obtain my B.Eng degree in Civil Engineering, I was responsible for making time schedules and calculations for the bill of quantities, for a variety of different projects. Also I have worked as a Site Engineer for a period of six months.

During that period I took part in some major projects, with the most notable the catholic renovation of an army camp. I had an excellent collaboration with officers and engineers from NATO and KFOR.

One more major project had to do with the design and construction of an exhibition kiosk for the Municipality of Thessalonica, and for the event “Philoxenia 2008”. I have performed the design, the calculations for the bill of quantities, and the supervision of the project, which was my first one.

After the period of the six months my boss offered me a full placement but I had to quit in order to continue further with my studies for a Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering.

Education

Master's degree, Structural Engineering
  • at University of Salford
  • December 2011

After I obtained my under-graduate degree in Civil Engineering I have enrolled in the University of Salford for a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Structural Engineering. I have successfully completed my thesis with the title: “The design of a medium span composite highway bridge to Eurocodes”, with a grade 74.0%. I have obtained my degree with Merit. Modules: Bridge Engineering Advanced structural mechanics Practical applications of the F.E.M Durability of Structures Steel building design Concrete building design Timber and Masonry design Seismic Engineering

Bachelor's degree, Civil Engineering (Structural - Building)
  • at Technologial Educational Institute of Serres
  • April 2009

I have successfully completed my thesis with the subject: "Strengthening and reinforcement of concrete elements with the use of Carbon Fibber Reinforced Polymers (C.F.R.P.)", and with a grade 95%. I have successfully obtained my degree in Civil Engineering with a grade 2:1 upper class with hons (60.05%).
