SCOPE OF WORK/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform cargo tank conversion as cargo tank layout may require from ship’s charterer under Gas Engineer and Chief Officer’s supervision. Responsible in maintaining the quality of the cargoes i.e., Propane and Butane, while transporting to its country of destination. Cargo pressure and temperature in its desired level is the main concern for these cargoes. Thus regular monitoring is essential and does machinery operation such as compressors and condensers necessary to maintain and restore the cargoes in its normal range condition.
• Record and maintain cargo pressure and temperature.
• Engage in the maintenance of the ship, fresh water and ship’s stores.
• Perform cargo valve operations prior to loading and unloading of cargoes.
• Perform ballast and deballasting operations using electric motor pump.
• Sounding and monitoring of ship’s ballast tanks.
• Attend fresh water replenishment, transfer, and check and repair leak pipelines.
• Operate ship’s crane during cargo and bunkering operations.
• Steer vessel, utilizing navigation devices, such as compass and sextant and navigational aids, such as lighthouses and buoy.
• Stand watch on vessel during specified periods while vessel is underway.
• Make minor repair to the wooden parts or similar locations of the ship as part of maintenance works.
• Prepare hand-over report covering relevant and necessary matters pertaining to ships maintenance.

EXPERIENCES GAINED:

• Participated in the operation, repair, maintenance, and upkeep of Cargo Reliquefaction Plant equipments such as compressors, condensers, blowers etc.
• Checked safety equipment, fire alarm and firefighting equipment, and lifesaving equipment such as lifeboats, life raft, fire extinguishers, SCBA etc.
• Repaired and replaced of defective vessel gear and equipment.
• Supervised crew in cleaning and maintaining decks, superstructure and bridge.
• Repaired and maintained deck machinery such as mooring winches and anchor windlasses.
• Operated machinery to determine causes of malfunctioning.
• Changed fuses and lights and overhauled electric motors.
• Installed, repaired, and maintained power and controls, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, light switches, light fixtures, electrical wiring, fuses, and other components of an electrical system.
• Dismantled, repaired, and replaced defective parts and reassembled machinery with machinist's hand tools, and chain hoists.
• Greased gears and other moving parts of machines on ship.
• Assembled and installed hardware, gaskets, floors, furnishings and insulation, using adhesive, hand tools and power tools.
• Repaired structural woodwork and replaced defective parts and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
• Constructed floors, doors and partitions, using woodworking machines, hand tools and power tools.
• Transferred dimensions and measurements of wood parts and bulkhead on plywood, using measuring instruments and marking devices.
• Records and logs operating conditions of equipment and work performed by entering data on a personal computer for tracking repairs, parts and completed work orders.
