Carried out nursing care for post-operative cases, such as, Total Hip, Total Knee Nailing, Arthroscopy, Platting, Cannulated Screw Fixation, and, Orthofix External Fixation.
General Capabilities as a Medical Nurse
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate assigned patient care with appropriate supervision from admission until discharged from the unit
Maintain accurate and complete intelligent records of nursing care in the observation of patient, including patient’s condition, medication, and treatment received
Recognize and interpret symptoms, plan nursing intervention, and implement plan for care to the patient
Identify and determine the priority of the patients problem and needs thorough, continuous observation and precise nursing assessment
Know patient’s condition at all times to a maximum degree
Prepare patient physically and psychologically for treatment, operation and diagnostic studies
Assist physicians during patient examination, treatment, and rounds
Administer medications and observe reactions and report them accurately; perform ECG-taking, IV canulation, insertion of urinary catheter, Naso gastric tube, wound dressing, suture removal, to name a few.
Perform and participate in rendering adequate and prompt nursing action to stabilize vital signs, intake and output for general comfort of the patient
Perform nursing procedures while maintaining safety and comfort during and after procedure; then, record and report outcome
Observe current safety and infection control standards
Administer parenteral medications such as Intravenous (IV), Sub-Cutaneous (SC), and Intra-Muscular (IM), as directed by attending physicians
Operate bio-medical instruments to monitor admitted ill patients such as syringe pump, infusion pump, ECG machine, Siemens bedside monitor, defibrillator, glucotrend machine, regulation suction apparatus, mechanical bed, total parenteral nutrition pump, blood warmer, pulse oxymetry nebuliser, steam inhaler, among others
