Systems Manager
United Private Schools
Total years of experience :18 years, 6 Months
I was responsible for all systems within the school environment, which consisted of different branches within Oman. This included their website, which I designed, as well as the school's internal email system.
I was responsible for all new development and enhancement within one of
the products of their enterprise package.
I was responsible for all reporting and application requirements.
Part of my responsibilities were to liaise with users and draw up
specifications for new requirements and enhancements.
I was responsible for all daily IT operations. I lead a team of programmers - making sure that all jobs that were being assigned to IT were allocated and delegated to the resources I had available. I also made sure that the general IT needs of the branch, which I was at, were met timeously. If no other resource was available and urgent jobs need seeing to I would jump in and help out wherever needed. I reported to the branch general manager and, being part of the management team, was responsible and accountable for the day-to-day reporting of costings, chargeable/non-chargeable, error reports, etc. I also was the contact point for all inter-branch IT communications.
I was responsible for installing and supporting a financial package called Accredo for small to medium sized companies. Part of my responsibilities involved customizing Accredo to suit the company’s needs. This also included writing scripts (using MaxBasic) and report writing to customize certain functions within the application.
I was responsible for developing and implementing a time
scheduler (timesheet) application, as well as an inventory and POS
application. Both applications were written using Visual Basic and MS Access (as a back-end database).
I initially wrote these systems in VBA and then migrated them to VB6. The POS system required a few more enhancements, hence I re-wrote it in VB.Net.
The school needed a system that could handle all their day-to-day
administrative tasks. They needed this system to handle registration of students, payments of fees, stock inventory, student information (test scores, class attendance, reporting, etc.), bus route schedules, etc. I initially designed and developed these systems in MS Access but then re-wrote them using VB6 because of the number of enhancements.
I was responsible for the full life cycle of software developed in-house
under my supervision. I was a Product Leader for their online shopping website and all its back-end supporting software and its processes.
I was responsible for rewriting legacy systems that were linked to the
online shopping website. I was required to analyse and maintain existing web-based systems.
I developed and implemented client/server and stand-alone applications. I analysed and maintained existing applications, including Customer Complaints, Point of Sale, Buying Plan, Range Plan, Garment Sourcing, Airtime and Style Management. I was part of a team that sourced and implemented the best solution in the shortest amount of time possible. I supported all software, across various platforms including mainframe and these systems required me to be on 24 hour standby. I also designed, developed, implemented and supported new applications as and when needed.
I developed both client / server and stand-alone applications. Most of the applications developed were add-ons to AccPac, which interfaced to the various databases. I also developed POS software for certain clients.
I developed add-ons, customisations and enhancements to the QDC Financial application at such client sites as Motorola, Mercedes Benz and CNN.
I maintained and customised their SQL Server, Visual Basic, MS-Access database environment and obtained any statistics that were required.
I performed new financial system development and maintenance, using Cbase on top of Unix.
I designed, developed and maintained a Medical Aid Debt Collection
system.
I supported current Microsoft product versions, assessed new products, wrote small Visual Basic and MS-Access systems and telephonically supported hardware and software. I was tasked with finding out what applications the company had and what applications still needed to be developed. I compiled a database with this information and made it available to all departments.
I have only completed 2 of the 3 years.
