In last 03 months the MTBF and MTTR levels has been given a complete turnaround with a 35 % improvement and an overall 20 % improvement in O.E.E.

General Manager - Engineering (reporting to VP, Works & CEO)
The group took up the plan of setting up of a state-of-the art modern CCR (Continuous Casting Refractory) manufacturing facility at Kandla, aimed at the Overseas market. I joined the organization to set up the facility from a green field stage. I am currently working as the technology and engineering head of the new set up commissioned in KANDLA SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE, Gujarat. The entire detailed engineering of this project was delivered by me. The plant is commissioned and commercial production and dispatches started without any delays.

• Complete project execution of a Rs.40 crore ($8 million USD) new CCR refractory plant in KANDLA SEZ.
• Complete and detailed ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENTATION/MECHANICAL/UTILITIES final layout preparation/engineering study and proposal finalization.
o Involved from Civil foundation to Plant startup.
o Design (own), installation and commissioning of online Mixing Plant consisting of Eirich Mixer Machine, Rotary Drier, Belt Conveyor, Hammer Mill, Blender.
o System Design Installation and commissioning of Mould filling and Pressing Plant.
o Independent design from scratch, Installation and commissioning of Flood Glazing System.
o Targeted Production level for break even achieved by continuous production detailing, scheduling, even upto packaging, and dispatching, on a day wise basis.
o Raw material and planning, tooling plan and staggering manpower planning done in a tight schedule.
o Scale up the plant from incubation to profit making, after the project.

• Complete Project execution done for online auto inspection high speed camera based system from M/s SGCC - France. This became one of the strength areas for HNGIL for export-based customers.
• Circuit and software modification done (in house) in batch house under technology transfer from M/s Zippe, Germany. Led to a 9% increase in yield of batches, resulting in approximately $8000 savings on RM per year.

• Dynamometer from technical design inception with M/S TATA Automotives Ltd. and MICROFACE (U.K.) to commissioning and successful operation. Worthwhile to note that visited U.S.A for exposure to system before project commencement which was invaluable exposure technically on the software of the system.
• Design/installation/commissioning of a pneumo-hydraulic intensifier based punching press tool and fixture. The tooling fixture and jig design was done from scratch and design was done on CATIA v5 and AUTOCAD 2000.
• Complete design and manufacturing from scratch of a copy grinding machine to grind radius of different sizes and types of composite brake blocks done using SOLIDWORKS and AUTOCAD 2000.
• Complete hydraulic design and implementation for converting a 4 column type 500t up stroking press to produce a different line of products (wedges) under license from Railroad Friction Products Corporation U.S.A. Work completed in house.

• Detailed design & manufacturing of a multi-station welding unit. The design was conceptualized from scratch and subsequently drawn up in AUTO CAD 2000. Validation (FEA) related parameters (except thermal) were done using COSMOS Designstar. The system is still operating successfully in Vesuvius today. Productivity increase of can welding (MIG-MAG) for rotorod stoppers has increased 4 times per shift.

Worked in devising shutdown and preventive plans for machinery as well as inventory management of critical spare parts.


• Input edge guiding system of TITAN (U.K) make reel-cutting machine was completely damaged due to failure of optical sensor controlled servo-position control valve. Since spare stock was not available, the same system was modified indigenously by pneumo-hydraulic-controlled edge-guiding system. System is still running successfully to date.
• Detailed repair & maintenance exposure obtained on high precision hydraulic & pneumatic controlled machinery.
• Hands-on repairing experience achieved in servo-valves, pneumatic position controllers, and detailed pneumatic circuits of advanced machines such as: Datwyler Cylinder Finishing m/c (polish master) and L-THINK (Japan) make film developing & coating & chroming-dechroming M/c. Ohio (U.S.A) make cylinder etching machinery, etc.

• Detailed, hands-on experience on the design aspects of Hydraulic power packs, (Vickers, Rexroth, Yuken, etc.)
• Servicing exposure obtained in high precision hydraulic circuit components like accumulators, solenoid operated D.C.V., transducers, scales (Heidenhein), rotary encoders etc.
