Sewer System Modelling

KWB involved working on the ongoing Research Project ''KURAS'', which
tackles urban water issues in the city of Berlin. KURAS is funded by the German ministry of education,
Berliner Wasserbetriebe (BWB) and Veolia.
My main roles as an intern for the Project are:
▪ Modelling an exemplary sewer network system from Berlin's catchment using InfoWorks CS
software.
▪ Evaluating the extent of combined sewer overflows (CSO) and surface flooding using different
design storms and evaluation criteria.
▪ Designing and implementing storage tanks in the modelled network, in order to reduce the CSO to
the Spree River, and the surface flooding in the sub catchment, according to the desired targets set
by the project responsible.
▪ Adapting pumps and hydraulic structures to manage the water flow in and out of the designed
storage tanks and around the sewer system, using real time control (
