General Practice Vocational Training Scheme - GP Registrar at Dickens Place Surgery
  • United Kingdom
  • February 2004 to February 2005

During my training as GP Registrar (as part of GPVTS) I have gained invaluable experience in managing all varieties of patients. I did my Registrar year at Dickens Place Surgery, which was located in the centre of Chelmsford and served an urban population. The Practice has three partners, a list size of 5, 937 and works under GMS.

Dickens Place Surgery provided extensive services to the community including nursing in house services, physiotherapy, counselling, dietetics, smoking cessation clinic, asthma clinic, diabetic clinic, hypertension clinic, ante-natal and maternity services etc. It provided minor surgery facilities as well. During my registrar year I spent time with all of these people. I also had the chance to extensively witness, discuss and support the work of the administration staff including our computer-, our accounts- and our practice manager. It was in the process of becoming fully paperless and all GPs, Nurses, secretaries and receptionists have network computing and use SystemOne software in Windows environment. This network is connected to hospital laboratory and NHS via the internet.
