Led process engineering and asset integrity efforts for the Yoho offshore production complex (OML 104) comprising a central production platform with 3 wellhead platforms and a Floating Storage & Offloading (FSO) vessel. Key achievements:
• Asset Integrity & Life Extension: Led the Yoho FSO Boiler Inspection and Maintenance project, a critical integrity initiative that extended the FSOs service life by 10 years. Executed comprehensive inspections and repairs of steam boilers in compliance with ExxonMobil integrity standards and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) class requirements, ensuring continued safe operations and future production (44 MMbbl) without downtime. The project was delivered on schedule and under budget ($462k).
• Process Optimization with Safety Gains: Conducted simulation studies and provided technical leadership for the Yoho production optimization project - safely brought online 5 previously shut-in wells by recalibrating facility set points and debottlenecking constraints. Achieved a ~10, 000 BOPD production increase (adding ~$54 million in annual revenue) while maintaining all operations within safe operating limits through careful risk evaluation and procedural controls.
• Regulatory Compliance & Interface: Acted as the liaison with regulatory bodies and JV partners to ensure all Yoho field activities met or exceeded local and international HSE regulations. Frequently interfaced with NUPRC inspectors and partner representatives to facilitate audits, incident reporting, and approvals for technical changes. Through these efforts, maintained a 100% compliance record for the asset and smooth regulatory approvals for new projects.
• Hazard Mitigation & Loss Prevention: Led a risk assessment update for continued operation of aging steam boilers on the FSO after integrity issues were found. Developed a risk mitigation plan (enhanced inspection frequency, engineering safeguards) and obtained management approval for continued service. Successfully closed out three Category-2 risk items, substantially improving safety conditions on the vessel and preventing an estimated $4.6 million in potential production loss from unscheduled outages.
• Operational Troubleshooting: Investigated and resolved critical process issues impacting safety and efficiency. For example, led a task force to diagnose excessive boiler feed water consumption and discovered system leaks; implemented repairs and operating changes that reduced feed water use by ~23%, thus ensuring stable boiler operation and preventing potential water shortfall during operations. Also coordinated chemical cleaning of a fouled heat exchanger and WHRU on the Yoho FPSO, restoring heat transfer efficiency and enabling the safe opening of previously shut-in, high-emulsion wells.
• Environmental Protection: Upgraded the Yoho produced water treatment system (WEMCO depurator) to improve removal of oil from discharged water. This revamp led to a marked reduction in Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) in overboard water, improving environmental compliance and reducing the facilitys ecological impact. Additionally, managed the replacement of the FSOs power synchronization control panel, eliminating recurring power changeover issues and thereby enhancing both safety (preventing blackouts) and saving ~$100k/year in maintenance costs.
• Project Execution & Handover: Oversaw multiple brownfield projects from design through execution on the Yoho facilities, ensuring all construction and installation work adhered to strict safety plans (SIMOPS). Led on-site construction teams, supervised contractor work permits, and ensured no incidents during high-risk construction activities. Upon completion, managed system commissioning, completions, and handover to operations, verifying that all systems met safety and performance criteria and that all documentation and punch lists were closed.
