The Oncology Department in Cairo University is one of the most reputable oncology institutions in Egypt, which serves over 3000 cancer patient a year. It serves as a university hospital, and referral center for different modalities of cancer patient treatment like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and palliative care.
My role in Oncology Department Cairo University includes:

•Trained, Practiced and getting high experience in cancer patient clinical evaluation, staging, deciding for treatment plans based on latest evidence-based treatment guidelines.
•Inpatient care : spent three years as a resident doing an inpatient medical care; including clinical history taking, physical examination, doing assessment, requesting labs and radiology, attending clinical rounds, doing an on-call duties, and working with other residents in internal medicine, surgery and emergency departments.
•Educating patients about nature of their disease, lines of treatment, scheduling of different treatment options, possible toxicities, alternatives of treatment (if any), and prognosis.
•Integrating different specialties in cancer care in decision-making process like cancer surgeons, internal medicine physicians, pathologists and radiologists in a multidisciplinary approach during weekly tumor board meetings.
•Coordinate the chemotherapy course with other treatment modalities like surgery, radiation therapy, hormonal treatment or targeted therapy; this involves other teams like nurses, dieticians, social workers, and rehabilitation services.
•Prescribing different types of chemotherapy single agents or combination with or without targeted agents knowing the full scope of each chemotherapy regimen, its indications, dosages, interactions, toxicities, and alternatives.
•Evaluating patient tolerance to chemotherapy in-between chemotherapy cycles and assessing tumor response to treatment meanwhile helping patients to improve their quality of life either during active treatment or during follow-up visits
•Implementing a second (or more) lines of chemotherapy in case of failure/resistance to first-line chemotherapy.
•Treating patients with radiation therapy starting with radiation therapy plan decision, doing CT simulation, reviewing the treatment plans, attending patient positioning during planning session and first few sessions on treatment, following patient during radiation therapy evaluating his treatment accuracy (set-up, positioning and treatment plan- target matching), tolerance to treatment, and response to treatment. I have been trained to a wide variety of radiation modalities like 3 Dimensional Conformal Radiation Treatments.(3 DCRT) in breast, lung, brain, rectal cancers and sarcomas.. Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatment (IMRT) in head and neck and prostate cancers, Low dose rate preloading, and high dose rate remote after-loading radiation treatments for female genital tract cancers.
•Palliative care of advanced and end-stage cancer patients using different modalities for pain management, nutritional support, and psycho-spiritual care.
