1. Provide IV push medications
2. Provide or assist with the provision of age specific advanced life support
3. Give a wide range of medications requiring close monitoring effects
4. Maintain current competencies for the critical nurse
5. Set up and assist with the application and use of numerous monitoring/life sustaining devices that, age/case specific may include:
• Hemodynamic monitoring devices (apply) inclusive of invasive devices (arterial and central venous pressure monitoring lines)
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (assist and measure)
• Swan Ganz (assist and measure)
• Rapid transfusion with or without use of warming devices
• Ventilators (monitor, assist, wean)
• Intra-cranial pressure (assist and monitor)
• CWHD (assist, monitor and measure)
6. Perform Advanced Cardiac life support
7. A member of code blue team
8. Interpret ECG monitor print outs
9. Recognize critical laboratory values
10.Knowledgably manages patients with altered awareness of environment and uses a variety of techniques to minimize sensory disorientation
11.Takes and analyzes ABG

Area of assignment: Medical Intensive care unit (18 beds)
Nurse-patient ratio: 1: 2-3
1. Receives endorsement from previous shift, gives endorsement to the next shift accurately.
2. Makes bedside rounds and assessment. Checks patient's status, gadgets attached and other pertinent data.
3. Carry out's doctors order
4. Performs direct nursing care procedures, which include bedside nursing, hygiene, pre- and post-operative nursing care, as well as admission and discharged duties.
5. Prepares nursing care plan.
6. Administers medication, notes reactions, and refers to physicians.
7. Prepares patients for, and assists physicians with, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both normal and specialized treatment cases.
8. Sets up the required treatment trays and instruments.
9. Monitors' heart rhythm, interprets and refers unusualities to physicians
10. Observes reports and maintains records on patient symptoms, medications, conditions, and progress of treatment and therapy.
11. Coordinates with other sections of the hospital regarding patient care and facilitates transport/transfer of patients to other wards.
12. Assist trainees and nursing aides in performing nursing care procedures.
13. Monitors and retrieves replacements for emergency medications and report breakages.
14. Requisitions and monitors supplies as needed.
15. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in respective areas.
16. Assist in the physical and mental health education and rehabilitation of patients and their families.
17. Making ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality
18. Performs other related functions as may be assigned.
