I lead an emergency field force team of engineers and have responsibility for providing first line supervisory and management; health and safety leadership; risks and issues management; internal and external stakeholder management; customer focus and technical expertise.
•I regularly advise senior management in relation to emerging health and safety risks and issues and develop strategies for overcoming such risks.
•I have broad experience of incident management. In my role I have managed fire, explosion, water ingress and major gas escapes. I thus shave considerable experience of working on large scale emergencies and incidents and ensuring a quick resolution through adopting robust project management techniques.
•I regularly manage and ensure the timely resolution of any internal or external complaints in relation to delivery of projects.
•I strive to ensure continuous improvement. I regularly prepare and lead successful presentations to both engineers and senior management to identify and implement best practice procedures. In addition, when on site, I lead team briefs and technical days to explain safety bulletins and engineering briefs to ensure that my engineers are up to date and engaged.
•I ensure competence and compliance of my team through daily AQAD inspections; and plan and prioritise workloads to maximise use of the resource available and ensure all shift patterns are fully covered to meet operational requirements.
My key achievements in this role to date include:
•Achieving a significant reduction in the risk score in my area. This was largely due to my focus on safety and compliance and commitment to undertaking regular audits and analysing the data obtained.
•Exceptional performance reviews which have commended my commitment to the role, my positive attitude and my desire to always improve and move forward the business.
•Becoming an emergency supervisor at the age of 21. I am proud of this achievement which demonstrates that I am a self-starter. I have built upon my skills and reputation within the teams since then and I actively seek and relish further opportunities to better myself and my team by undertaking new projects.
•Successfully managing a large high profile incident which involved 250 properties. I planned, prioritised and organised a team which included supervisors, engineers and safety professionals to ensure a quick and efficient resolution to the problem. In this task I was able to demonstrate my ability to work at pace and under pressure whilst closely monitoring all health and safety risks involved and putting a clear mitigation plan in place to ensure the safety of my team, the emergency services and the public
I effectively managed and supported operational teams to efficiently replace gas mains and services.
•I continuously delivered quality service to all stakeholders, whilst managing project issues and ensuring high quality customer service.
•I promoted efficient working by planning and prioritising work and regularly budget managing projects to ensure that my team and I worked as efficiently as possible.
•A large part of my role in this position related to compliance and health and safety. Safety was paramount; to the workforce and the general public and customers. I regularly wrote permits to work for deep excavations and ensured compliance with sign, lighting and guarding as well as conducting site specific risk assessments on a daily basis to ensure that all hazards were removed or mitigated in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and best practice ERIC.
In this role my achievements included:
•Being awarded the Construction Engineer of the Year award in 2012 in recognition of my contribution and passion to the role.
•Managing a large gas main replacement programme which required me to plan operations and liaise with various stakeholders to ensure that that field force and other aspects of the project including health and safety critical equipment; and plant hire and fittings were on site as and when required.
