My role is to assure the follow-up of multiple complicated postoperative cases. Responsible for a caseload of patients where I must coordinate their care during their stay at our facility and upon their return home. I also take care of patients overseas and collaborate with their resources. I support the Recovery Centre unit and help develop their nursing skills by supervising the cares given and providing relevant information and knowledge.
- Member of the employee committee where I brought up ideas resulting in a better work environment and reduced our consumption of paper.
- Treating patients experiencing hyper granulation with silver nitrate. Implemented a new plan of care to increase the number of treatments provided by the postoperative clinic resulting in faster healing of hyper granulation in our patients.
- Evaluate 24h post-mastectomy patients, assess for any sign of complications (hematoma, infection), and teach postoperative care.
- Working in close collaboration with several departments at the same time and with the surgeons resulting in faster and more efficient follow-up with the patients.
- Able to work remotely.
Educated patients on their health condition, treatments, care, and discharge planning. Performed quality training for new hire orientation. Managed daily staff and patients' assignments to ensure quality patient care.
- Coordinated the team and other departments for emergencies and returning patients in the operating room.
- Implemented a new sheet for the unit to standardize the teaching done to patients.
- Created reminder sheets about the cares for patients with learning difficulties/ disabilities resulting in more independence for our clientele.
- Regularly called to help on the unit care (patients coming back from the operating room)
- Take vital signs, assess the patient's condition, administrate subcutaneous/ intramuscular/ intravenous medication, administrate blood components and products
Evaluate the patient before surgery, prepare and administer a sedative, proceed to local anesthesia, prepare the OR, assess the patient’s condition during and after surgery, assist and provide help in the operating room, document the information, and other related tasks.
- Assisted the surgeon for the removal of a hallux valgus (bunion)
Completed 1 year and a half of a 5 years part-time program developed for health care professionals to become an osteopath. Their program consists of attending seminars (5 days) every month. - Desire to expand and improve my knowledge about human anatomy. - Learned multiple techniques to evaluate and release different structures of the body. - Possibility to pause my studies and to study abroad.
- Eight internships completed simultaneously with regular courses in different fields such as palliative care, home care, general medicine, mental health, pediatrics, emergency care, community health, etc. - Bronze Award of Honor for Poster Presentations at the Alice Girard Symposium in May 2016.
