AlJaber Engineering (JEC) is a prominent general contracting firm headquartered in Qatar, founded in 1995 under the umbrella of Al Jaber Group - a major conglomerate with over 40 companies. As a part of JEC, I have delivered several turnkey projects for esteemed clients in Qatar, including ISF, LRT, QP, ASHGHAL, QATALUM, KAHRAMAA, Hitachi Zosen Corporation and CTJV.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Head of Procurement for JEC & JH companies, I am responsible for all electro-mechanical related activities. My focus is on implementing best-in-class procurement procedures to select, develop, and manage suppliers based on their performance and conformance to the procurement cycle.
To maximize company profits, I use aggressive negotiation techniques and ensure that goods and services are acquired at the best price and terms possible. I oversee all requests for goods and services, ensuring they are in line with approved unit budgets to prevent exceeding yearly budgets.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with key suppliers is a top priority for me to ensure consistent quality and timely delivery of goods and services. I also identify and evaluate potential risks or bottlenecks associated with suppliers and develop strategies to mitigate those risks, improving overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Moreover, I strive to enhance the organization's reputation as a responsible and ethical business partner through my procurement practices.
The job responsibilities include:
- Verifying and evaluating the accuracy of comparison sheets prepared by Junior Engineers
- Conducting interviews with vendors and assessing their product standards and capability to meet project requirements
- Reviewing invoices and working with suppliers to resolve issues related to wrong payments, credits, payment terms, and duplicate billings
- Maintaining organized and updated product information files and purchase order records
- Continuously improving operations, decreasing turnaround times, and streamlining processes for efficient and seamless service
- Leading negotiations for technical products on complex projects and inquiries that require extensive sourcing
- Managing the complete sourcing process for complex requirements, projects, and products
- Developing and maintaining an extensive supplier database.
BEMCO, established in 1965, is a leading EPC turnkey contractor for industrial and power projects. With its full-scale capabilities in engineering, procurement, construction, fabrication, start-up, and commissioning, BEMCO has successfully undertaken some of the largest and most challenging turnkey projects in Saudi Arabia and the region, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. As a member of the BEMCO team, I successfully procured sophisticated, customized packages for the New Doha International Airport project in Qatar.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As part of my procurement responsibilities, I floated Engineering Requisition Packages to international suppliers and manufacturers for the New Doha International Airport project. I requested quotations and prepared comparison sheets to determine the supplier that meets the technical specifications and targeted budget.
Once a supplier was selected, I prepared Purchase Orders, contracts, and draft LC's, and negotiated payment methods, delivery terms, and possible penalties. I also expedited technical submittals, such as pre-qualification documents, catalogues, data sheets, and compliance statements.
To ensure project timelines were met, I closely followed up with the consultant and technical team to obtain Release for Manufacturing. This allowed us to initiate the manufacturing process and maintain schedules for manufacturing, testing, inspection, commissioning, and release for shipment, all in accordance with the planned project dates.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As part of my procurement role, I sent inquiries to local vendors and subcontractors to purchase Bill of Quantity items. I also coordinated with different departments within the company to resolve any conflicts or delays that may arise during the Rotana Café project.
I ensured compliance of transaction orders and cost codes with site projects, and provided support to offshore procurement departments in Qatar, Iraq, Dubai, and Sudan to arrange for new international construction suppliers.
Additionally, I organized the export process and facilitated the provision of unavailable items from Lebanon to foreign branches.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As the Supply Chain Manager for Bitar International Group, I was responsible for sourcing and purchasing bulk food items, such as grains, seeds, canned food, nuts, and other miscellaneous foodstuff from local and international suppliers. This included negotiating with suppliers to acquire necessary standardized items at a profitable price, as well as coordinating with local shipping lines to obtain the most cost-effective freight rates and transit times. In addition, I monitored the shipping of 3000 containers and two conventional vessels per year, from the booking and loading stage to stocking the goods in the warehouses. I also conducted inventory stock analysis to ensure a continuous flow of goods. Finally, I worked closely with banks to acquire necessary credits, open letters of credit, and make payments to suppliers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships with local and international suppliers and brokers.
- Contact banks directly to monitor letters of credit, acceptances, advance payments, and settlement payments.
- Coordinate with insurance companies to obtain coverage for purchased goods before shipment.
- Book shipments with various shipping lines and monitor the shipping schedules of incoming consignments by sea.
- Check commercial documents of imported goods to ensure compliance with purchase orders before arrival at the destination.
- Expedite customs clearance of goods and forward related invoices and costs to the accounting department for proper registration and costing.
