Senior Engineering Technologist (Automation) at Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology
  • Pakistan - Islamabad
  • My current job since January 2015

I actively participated in technical initiatives centered on automation and control in my prior position. This included a variety of duties, such as automation engineering and design, where I was instrumental in creating and putting into practice automation solutions that improved the dependability and efficiency of the system. In addition, I developed a great deal of expertise in configuring network devices and protection/control IEDs to guarantee smooth interoperability and integration with the power system architecture for the safer operation of LINACs. Additionally, I helped with system integration, HMI, and interface projects, which helped various system components communicate and function together more smoothly in the remote operation of testing facilities. In addition, I participated in the factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) testing of dipole and quadrupole electromagnets and the commissioning phases to make sure the system worked and that the project's specifications were met. I successfully found and fixed problems in troubleshooting scenarios to reduce downtime and guarantee continuous operation. To monitor project progress and guarantee conformity to specifications and standards, I also oversaw operations and kept thorough records in a logbook. I have a solid foundation in power system protection, automation, and control, including various communication protocols (Modbus, DNP, and Profibus) and application software such as HMI/SCADA WinCC and TIA Portal. With over eight years of professional experience, I am confident that I can make valuable contributions to similar projects within your organization in the future.

Design, development, installation, and commissioning of SIEMENS S7-300 & IPC477D HMI-based automated test facility for 30 and 50 keV Electron Gun

• Contributed to developing the remote-control facility for safe low- and high-voltage operations of the electron gun and operations of the high-voltage deck for the slave PLC through the PROFIBUS network.
• Implemented all safety measures compulsory for high voltage testing of e-Gun, including fiberglass safety-insulated rescue hooks, door interlocks, and fiberglass primary insulating pole rods.
• Completed wiring of SIEMENS S7-300 I/O Modules in vertical PLC panel.
• Participated in programming and commissioning of low- and high-voltage remote operation of 30-50 keV e-Gun

Design, development, and commissioning of line-type HV modulator (48KV, 110A, 5 µs) for 30/50 keV e-Gun test bench operation

• Performed 3D modeling of modulator panel in CREO 7.0 for manufacturing purposes.
• Participated in developing line-type modulators during the installation of PFN charging coils, capacitors, pulse transformers, high-voltage rectifiers, transformer connections, and placement. Actively involved in testing and commissioning of a 48kV, 5µs modulator for 30-50 keV e-Gun using PLC S7-300 automation and control.

Operation and Maintenance

• Maintained and monitored ultra-high vacuum in the test bench of the electron gun and LINAC.
• Provided efficient support to the operations team in RF conditioning and 6-15 MeV LINAC operation utilizing EPICs and PLC-based control systems.
• Assisted in conducting various radiography experiments for material irradiation and characterization of 6-MeV LINAC.

Development of LINAC and Beamline Components

• Actively involved in the modeling and generation of engineering drawings of the low-emittance and high-current diode-type electron gun for LINAC.
• Modeled the assembly of the dispenser cathode, incorporating high- and low-voltage insulations. Executed the fabrication of various components of an electron gun from a mechanical workshop.
• Actively contributed to the modeling and generating engineering drawings for an H-shaped scan magnet for 6-20 MeV industrial LINACs and a dipole magnet for magnetron RF source using PTC CREO 7.0.
