Although the Position was termed as that of the Administrator but on ground it was encompassing both the administrative role in some aspects while managerial in others which included both the technical and HR related issues. This was due to being basically qualified as a Mechanical Engineer while throughout the career, job descriptions included both dealing with the technical and management issues. Masters and PhD Course work in Engineering Management were supporting the practical civil & military experience gained over more than 30 years before joining this state of the art factory which unfortunately couldn't go into re-production after its closure because of non-professional attitude/ approach towards running a business which was basically run as a family business.
Over 25 years of experience in the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering of the Pakistan Army in various ranks on different Command, Staff, Instructional and Administrative appointments concerning engineering, engineering management, HRM, OM & OHSE related issues like:-
Managing OHSE issues both at the permanent & temporary locations.
Implementing regular inspection & troubleshooting procedures, proactive planning for demanding requisite spares for maintenance, repair, replacement & overhaul ensuring vehicles and equipment availability 24/7/366.
24/7/366 availability of the storage sites environment according to stringent military specifications for various species with access control systems in place.
Overseeing the management of supply chain of requisite spares, inventory management including storage of fringe items.
Achieved relevant skills in each of these employment areas to produce over and above the desired results.
6 yrs of mfg, production, insps, QC & adm experience at the Pakistan Machine Tool Factory Pte Limited.
Demonstrated strong analytical & organizational skills in the Mgmt of Tech to resolve problems in a given time, rectified critical problems pertaining to fabrication & mfg of machine tool jigs, fixtures & various toolings required for the different prod units of the factory, resulting in savings of extra expenditures.
Comprehensive exposure to different machining & mfg processes of Automotive \[Bedford Truck & MF-240 Tractor axle & transmission components, Motorcycle components\], Armaments \[ Mortars of different calibers, 106 mm Recoilless Rifle, Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher\], Machine Tool \[lathes, drilling & milling machines etc\], Gas Meter components etc.
Prime responsibilities in the Tool Room Department:-
Mfg of forging, pressure die-casting & sheet metal dies for the Automotive, Armaments, Machine Tool & Gas Meter components in accordance with the drawings prepared by the Tool Design Dept for various ferrous & non-ferrous alloys including trial production.
Planning the mfg layout & selection of right machine tool \[Jig Boring Machine, Copy Milling/ Die-sinking Machine, Spark Erosion Machine etc\], type of heat treatment process, final polishing & matching etc.
Demanding correct materials of the right dimensions to cater for rough machining, heat treatment, final finishing ops allowances followed by individual/ stage insp from the metrology dept having state of the art insp equipment including CMM, different types of Digital Gages, image projectors etc.
As Tool Room officer, also supervised machining & heat treatment ops required for other jigs & fixtures, tools & gages meant for production depts of the factory on Jig Boring Machines, Thread Grinding, Relieving Lathe, Tool Sharpening, various grinding & straightening machines etc.
Prime responsibilities in the Die Casting Department:-
Operation of pressure die-casting dies for Aluminium Alloy & Zinc components on machines ranging from 250 to 700 T locking force.
Regular monitoring of crucible & other contaminants especially in the Aluminium alloy melt for obvious reasons.
Post machining op on certain components like motorcycle hubs, gas meter main body & side panels etc.
Ensuring the 24/7 operation in concert with all the concerned departments.
Meeting the targets set forth by the Commercial Department.
Solid background as a Mfg Engineer - carried out analysis of the process layout of machining & heat treatment units, and removed misalignments with the organizational capabilities, resources, and mgmt preferences.
Set ambitious production targets, key performance indicators, and performance measures inline with the Commercial \[Sales & Marketing\] Department.
Maintained congenial relations & removed barriers within the dept.
Provided technical support in the design of jigs & fixtures by the Tool Design Dept for the production depts.

During the course work, following subjects were studied as a requirement for carrying out the PhD Research work:- (1) Management of Technical Organizations,(2) Probability & Statistics for Engineers, (3) HRM, (4) Environment & Safety Management, (5) Advance Research Methods & (6) Waste Management. Research papers on following topics as part of the Subject Term Papers were submitted during the PhD Coursework: Health Issues of Traffic and Curbside Noise Pollution in Pakistan. Status of Pharmaceutical Waste Management in Pakistan.
The course work included following subjects:- (1) Design Patents, Contract & Legal Engineering, (2) Quality Engineering, (3) Operation Management, (4) Project Management, (5) Engineering Ergonomics & Work Study, (6) Production System Design & Analysis, (7) Facility Planning & Layout, (8) Technology Management & (9) Thesis on the topic, " Role of Traditional Technology in Semi-Automatic Glass Factory - A Case Study". The paper aims to study the production system of a low technology glass factory with a view to identify the different types of wastes in it which are very obvious to an external observer and thereby reducing or eliminating these wastes by using the locally available existing technology. For the expected increase in productivity due to the management of technology - both in terms of tangible and intangible measures - needs immediate attention of the proprietor without much of investment.
